Glovebox Removal

I want to mount a two-way radio in the glovebox. To do this, I need to cut a small hole in the rear of the glovebox to pass the antenna cable through. Yes I realize it can go up and over the back side of the glovebox, however the SO-239 end connector is too big for that to work, I need to cut the hole.

How do I get this glovebox out?

If you just want to take the glove box out you need to disconnect the spring loaded string on the right hand side of the glove box first. The clip that is holding it in place will come off the glove box, you will need a small flat head to help pop it out.

Next you need to squeeze in the sides so that the stops will go past the normal stop point.

Once the glove box is hanging freely you will see how it is hinged at the bottom. You just need to pull on it a little in the directions needed to remove the hinge section. There are 3 spots but i did not get a picture of the all.

It took me about 10 minutes the first time to take it out. Ill take some pictures of it when i get home from work and edit them into this post.

Hope this helps.

Please take a picture of this for me. I am thinking of doing the same thing with my CB radio. Either that or I'm going to get rid of the pocket under my new stereo and mount it there.

Thanks guys, yes its just the glovebox I need to get out. I will attempt removal by the preceding instructions, and yes I'll take pics.

Is there any danger of "losing" the spring loaded string inside the dash, or is it sufficiently long?

No there is not unless it is broke. I hade made a thing so that if it went in to far i would be able to grab it but it hang out about 3 inches so there was no need for anything to stop it.

Question

You mean like a CB radio? Good Lord! Could you imagine the big-**** antenna flapping in the wind on the back of a Cobalt? That would be something you wouldn't see everyday!

Yep, CB radio but without the big antenna. I use a glass mounted "sticker" antenna. It spans the entire rear window up at the top so you don't even see it. No one would ever know I even have a CB.

Yep, mine is a 2m Ham Radio. I have a 5/8 wave (about 4 feet) antenna mounted to my deck lid. Its magnetic though, so I can take it off easily.
