Got a free shift light

I know i have lots of threads....i have alot of questions, i always appreciate all your help! A MSD shift light was given to me for free...It is pretty basic. Comes with wires coming out the back and that's about it. I asked him about adjusting for the RPMs and he said "it needs the little chip for what RPM you want to shift at" my car is basically bone stock. But the light was free! I kinda wanna install as a fun little mod. But I am completely foreign to go about doing that. Anyone have any experience with these?

Shift lights are for morons who do not know how to drive a stick.
