Talking Great find for us 2007 cobalt owners!!

Us 2007 cobalt owners lose the warning chimes once we put in an aftermarket stereo and there are $200+ harnesses out there to keep the warning chimes....

BUT...

Look what i found!! and only $99!!

What chimes are you talking about?? i looked at that link and wasnt too descriptive either. Are you talking about low fuel, door ajar, coolant etc? Cuz with the harness I bought at crutchfield for like 20-30 beans it retained all of that, Ive had no probs. The only thing i lost was the volume and other radio controls on the steering wheel (not cruise control that works still), which i didnt really want or care about.

why do you need the chimes? anytime the car makes sounds it tells you on the dash what's wrong anyways.

So if I didn't have a harness like this, the aftermarket radio would still plug-in and work, just with no chimes right??

No, not necessarily... U will need some type of cheap harness, usualll found at a walmart and it will need to be re-pinned to work properly... although, i have yet to find one. I knw best buy has the harness for the 07 Pontiac G5, try that one... and yes, you will lose ALL ur chimes... sucks but its a sacrifice ur guna have to make until u buyy the harness pictured above.

All I'm trying to establish (which no one has been able to yet...) is whether or not an aftermarket radio can just plug-and-play in our cars AT ALL. I could care less about chimes honestly, and would rather just direct-connect it.

Oooookkk then... NO, an aftermarket stereo will not just plug-n-play.. u either need a wiring harness, or u splice into the stock harness and direct connect it.. it is possible to direct connect it. Doesnt get more simpler than that.

Part GMLAN2SR works also. A little more expensive ($120 from BB). But still works the same. I'm currently 80% through my install

there is no 07 without the GMLAN... without the harness half of the dash won't wonk, i tried and went back to stock... if you want an aftermarket stereo then go to a car audio shop tell them what kind of car, and what type of stereo you have and they can find you the the right harness

Looks like GMLAN2SR doesnt work. It routes the Accessory power wire through the positive LF speaker wire :| Everything else works, except no power going to the headunit. Gonna have to figure something else out.

And cobaltguy88, did you actually USE the harness and it work, or did you just find that one online?
