Have a few question about my amp CAP!

Ok first i got my amp kit and there was this little wire with a little blue thing in it what is that for? Next do i put my fuse between the battery and cap or cap and amp? and does anyone have a pic of there cap set up so i can see?

and do you need to charge the cap?

That little thing is a resistor, it is used to charge the cap, so yes you do need to charge it. Put the fuse between the battery and the cap, as close to the battery as you can. Hook up your ground wire to the cap, then hold the resistor in between the positive wire and the cap positive input terminal, for a minute or so, that should do it.

if you don't charge it, be prepared for some big sparkage

make sure its grounded, then connect the power cable to that little resistor, and touch the other end of the resistor to one of the positive terminals on the cap, and i believe once that cap reads the normal voltage coming from the battery then you can just hook it up normally. I'm sure emperror will come on here and correct me if im wrong

forgot to mention, be careful because that resistor is prolly gonna get pretty hot

yeah i will wait for him to chime in but what you are saying is ground the cap then use the power wire from the batter that is hooked up connect the little wire and the power wire and touch the postive terminal on the cap until it reads what voltage? I have hooked up my amp and everything and it works i just need to connect my cap but i wanna do it right first

ya charge ur cap witht the resistor in-line till 12V.

now, you CAN charge it just by connecting it but the huge power jump will cause some sparks and might damage something.

Well i was always told once it levels off.. I think you will probably get into the low 13's voltage wise.. You'll know because the voltage will stop climbing

You definitely need to charge it first. Don't take any chances

connect ground, then have the resistor in line between the cap and +12V, the cap will charge slowly this way.

many people will recomend u put the resistor IN PLACE of ur main system fuse.but i never did tht...

hold the resistor with pliers, it will get hot

I dont even trickle charge my cap anymore. Just slap the connector back on the battery. Bigger spark but its been fine.

ok so i connect the ground on the cap connect the resistor to the postive on the cap then touch the power wire from the battery to the other end of the resistor until the cap stops raising number wise does it matter which end goes where on the resistor? and my cap is 1.8 fraud so how long with this take to do this?

it shouldnt take long at all.

if this is something ur gona do often i would build a charge cable for it.

take thick low guage wire and add a 12v audio fuse inline and put the resistor in place of the fuse

the resistor should work both ways

no i was referring to charge time

Keep it hooked up and your fine, you dont have to charge it everytime you start your car or anything

ya u should be fine unless u drain ur cap somehow by disconnecting it from ur system. but u could leave ur car off...forever...and be fine. think of it exactly like another battery, just very fast acting.
