I'm looking for something that might not even exist... but I think it does.

I want a new head unit like this:



I want a certain feature or two in specific. Playing CD's is a must... but what i am REALLY looking for... is one that can display gauges. Like it has a built in feature to show things like Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Boost, or whatever you hook up to it.

Similar to that of the new Nissan GTR, haha:




Does such a thing exist? Who makes it? Where can I get one? Etc Etc Etc...

Does HPT have a guage display function?

 

x2, I wonder. I have a laptop and could get HPTuners for less than I would pay for a Head Unit with that sort of power.

 

Or a carputer, and an LCD in dash...

 

The other thing I was thinking of... was taking out the middle two vents (the ones above the factory head unit) and installing a three gauge pod of some sort... similar to what the older STi's had.

I have a picture of a cavi that did the vent thing, it looks sweet, ill have to find it when i get home

 

The display/gauge controller you speak of exists. I could run down to Autobacs and pick one up for you if you'd like. The one I saw was displaying in English though I'm not sure how hot the tech support or owners manual would be., it was made by Apexi.

 

It would have to plug into your OBDII port, plus have inputs for external sensors such as wideband

I'll have to go by Autobacs and take a pic of the one I saw. I know for sure it didn't have what gear you're in, but I think it might have had RPM. All the other stuff was there though.

pioneer makes one i know for sure. ill just have to find it. best buy has it, they claim it won't fit in our cars, but im sure some small amount of custom work and it'd go in fine. i

to be honest i doubt it, but who knows, if your computer picks it up, and somebody knows enough about software, you could get it to show.

 

Yeah... see if you can get me some info on it first. I'm gonna do some scouting first... and EGT, Water Temp, Oil Pres, Oil Temp, Knock would be some major things I'd be interested in. I'll probably have Boost, AFR, and one other on my Pillar.

 

HPT does have a "digitaldash"

 

Can you pick what info it shows? Either way... that is good to hear.

 

to run it off hpt tho might be a big hassle...u have to hook up ur lap top then run something from ur lap top to ur head unit to display what the laptop screen shows..or maybe a 7 inch moniter idk..it could be something to look into (i know i was thinking about doing it) but u would have to be in scan mode at all times to see anything come up...i wish there was a way to just plug it in and it reads everything without recording..

 

IDK...ill have to ask someone that actually has it...

Yea, if you had a laptop that had S-Video out along with a HU that had Svideo in... But it sounds more like he is looking for an all-in-wonder HU deal.

I would worry about the clarity of the display of the smaller readings running anything but VGA from the computer tho.

 

i guess us low class are stuck with guages lol

 

The N# will do gauges with an extra Module. Lemme find a screen shot.

 

A little bird told me "you can change color, size, location, what gauges you want shown, you can change everything even needle color, background color, gauge color"

 

yea i want it too i was going to start a thread like this never got around to it though lol. Too bad the only way to have that is an 80,000+ car.
