Well i got all the stereo equipment that's in my sig. When i turn it up and the bass hits my headlights dim. Dumb question but does that mean i need to get a capacitor?

sure.. capacitors are for that reason exactly... depending on wattage you could run a second battery but thats for serious stuff

a 1 farad capacitor would be great your onlly pusshing about 500rms watts maximum

 

Yeah. SO i could buy the capacitor and hook it up to my battery. How would you even use another battery wouldn't it get drained after a while?

 

you want to put the capacitor no more than 18 inches from the amp... it will splice right into the power wiire you have going to your amp...then ground it

 

IMO you're not pushing enough power for 2 batteries to be required. but you'd probably run a dry-cell battery for that type of set up. i'm not 100% positive tho.

yea. anywhere close to your amp. make it so u can see it and on some u can watch how much battery power you have.

Your best solution is a new battery, preferably a Yellow Top Optima. They are made to handle the power draw that stereo systems put on a car battery.

As for a capacitor.......they are more of a "band aid" type solution. They do help, but after awhile they do not perform as well and you end up having to replace it.

A good battery, and good sized wiring to your amp (4 gauge at a minimum) for both the positive and ground and you will be good to go!!

I am not sure where in the USA....but Wal-Mart sells them here in Calgary. And I am sure any other automotive store should have them, or at least know of a place that does sell them.

I personally would upgrade the wiring to the amp to 4 guage. The bigger the wire, the less resistance and better power delivery you will get. Just make sure that the ground wire is the same size as the power wire and that you have a really good ground.

 

You should definatly get 4gauge wire. Rockford fosgate preferably, they make the best wires i think. They are top of the line, and they sell em at best buy. The install kit for one amp is like 70$ i think.

 

Ill probably get 4 gauge wire off my friend. I have them bought running off my battery (positive/ground). Is that good or sound i ground it to the back seat bolts?

Yah, I had this problem, running 500 watts rms, and a capacitor helped a bit but didn't completely illiminate the headlight flashing..

New battery works best.

 

I was thinking about bridging my amp? lol I'm not sure if i wanna do it or not to get more power to the sub. Probably blow up the amp

 

Man from personal experience I would stay away from adding a cap of any kind to your setup. def. upgrade your amp kit and try to upgrade the stock wiring. Anyone ever hear of the "big 3"?

ive never had an issue with a cap... they have very detailed instructions when you buy them so just follow them and you wont have an issue... use the little resistor to charge it first just to be safe...

 

I use Interstate batteries. I know a lot of people who have had isses with Optima batteries (including myself). I personally use a batcap (google it they are awesome) instead of a capacitor and i love it! I also run 2 gauge from the battery to the amp and 2 gauge for the ground. Make sure the ground is as short as possible as well. I ran this setup on my old 99 Grand Am and on my SS and I've never had an issue with the lights dimming or an alternator problem. I run with 3 Concept Competition 12's a 1500 watt Concept amp for the subs and a 500 watt Concept amp of the highs/mids. Needless to say it knocks pretty hard!

 

I have done this on my last car and on a friends jetta. It did the trick w/o using a cap.
