Heads Up Display

Another thread made me think of this. I have a Grand Prix at the house that i dont drive anymore, i wonder what it would take to get the heads up display out of it and put it in the Balt, any thoughts?

make sure it can work.... u have to splice into the speedometer and the reason i wouldnt do it is bcause u have to rip apart ur dash to mount it. also depending on how big the hud is u have to watch out for the piping to the vents over there. other then that its possible lol... i would do the wiring first an see if it works then deal with mounting

What if you messed up though.....There would be a hole in your dash. That would be painful...

What makes you say that? If he can aim it correctly on the windsheild then it would probably work. Unless if it is the glass itself and not the shape of it. Is that what you mean?

I think it has to be the glass itself. Or it could be the shape of it. Just going on the Cobalt windshield and what I remember of my mom's Grand Prix, I think the curve of the Cobalt windshield would create too much distortion.

In all honesty I think you may need a small miracle to make it work. And as someone else said, when all is said and done if it doesn't work you're going to have a COMPLETELY destroyed dashboard.

The glass thing I could understand. It is quite possible it could distort the image. Isnt there some kind of way to adjust the output or clarity of the heads up though? Kinda like a camera?

Like zoom in and zoom?

It's still going to be affected by the curvature of the glass. Plus I'm not too sure on how those work, but it could be possible to need some sort of anti-glare film or treatment on that portion of the windshield to get it to display properly

This place has the full hud for like 310

plus the windshield wouldn't be a problem. You would use a display film that is applied to the windshield. Basically a small piece of tint

+1 rep for a good alternative! But if I was going to do this i would want it as clean as possible. I have a hard enough time dealing with my GPS on my windsheild.

This would be more like it-

its possible... the aftermarkets can clutter the dash tho. It's not gonna be an easy project but if you have the basic understanding you can pull it off. the windshield needs a reflective film on it, but i am sure that can be picked up pretty easily.

honestly.... i would consider looking around junkyards and waiting for a trashed vette... its bound to happen and just pull the part out.

I think I will try this and let you guys know how it turns out. Maybe IF i get drunk enough Ill make a how-to, but Im going to need some serious alcohol for that.

I was just thinkin about this same idea the other night, only using one out of a 'vette, rather it be C5 or C6. I think it can be done it'll just take a lot of time and creavtivity. Good luck, it'll be a challenge, that's for sure!

I've also been wondering about how to swap a factory GM (or GM accessories) Navigation/DVD unit into my balt.

I'm a GM tech so I've at least got that goin for me right? lol I know either would be difficult but worth the pay off.

Haha, let me see how hard this thing will be to get out of the grand prix. If anything ill just order one out of a vette or something. I think it would be sweet, and i get to be drunk! Its really weird i cant mod my car unless im smashed, its like a bonding thing ya know, lol!!
