Question HID Kit affecting my Speakers?!

Exactly that, when I turn my auto headlights off I lose power to my rear speakers, I can still hear sound from my front speakers and tweeters and from the stock Subwoofer. I will not get sound from the rear speakers until the car has sat for about 2hrs (turned off) or if I disconnect the stock amplifier and reconnect it. None of this was happening until I installed my HID kit about 2 days ago so I'm kind of confused... Oh additional info, I have a 2006 Cobalt SS with Pioneer sound system w/o Onstar or XM.

Thanks in advance!

^^ My thought exactly but I don't know how else to explain it. I also forgot to mention I have 2 12" aftermarket sub woofers connected to my rear speakers (using the high input on the amp). I noticed this just the other day. I turned on the car and headed to work, it was dark already so my headlights were on (HID Kit) and I thought to myself "I'm just gonna cruise with the fogs on" I know probably not the smartest thing, but beside the point. I turned off my headlights and as soon as I did no more sound from my rear speakers or my aftermarket subs. turned the lights on still no sound, when I got to the parking lot at work I disconnected the stock amp (with the car off) and reconnected it and voila, rear speakers and aftermarket subs came back on. So my question is WTF is going on?!

That is what I'm scared of too, I don't want to fry the stock amplifier. If it helps I have the aftermarket subs grounded about a foot away from the battery and the power coming straight off the battery post, and the aftermarket amp has a built in remote so as soon as it senses power to the rear speakers it will turn on. Lastly my HID kit is plugged into the oem low beam wires as it is not a bi-xenon kit.

If he was drawing too much current he would have blown a fuse.

It has to be the HID kit which is really strange. I just disconnected the HID kit and put in regular halogen bulbs and it didn't do it, reconnected the hid ballasts and bulbs and it did it again?! This has me scratching my head, no blown fuses, no weird engine noise in the speakers, everything is perfectly fine until I turn off my auto lights.

No. if the HID's pull to much current from the batt. the amp could be going in to pretect mode. either the battery is getting old and not holding the charge anymore or the alternator cant keep up.

HID's pull a lot of current. mainly the ballasts. have some one get in the car start it while u are in the truck. have them turn the lights on if u hear u hear a click in the amp your amp is going into protect. ull either need a bigger batt, alternator or both.

^ The only problem with what you are saying is that the aftermarket amp shuts off because my stock rear speakers turn off (it is connected using the high input on the amp) also it does this when the lights are turned off, not on.

Are you running them with a relay or are you just going off the wiring harness?

This. You need to run hids off a relay and not just straight off the stock wiring. Stock wiring won't hold up to the initial amount of current that is needed for the ballasts.

Also, you're running two amps and didn't mention whether or not your running a capacitor to the aftermarket one. I would suggest running one simply because you're running two amps.

Also, as said, your battery or alternator could be going bad or just can't keep up.

Take the car to an automotive place and see if they can test the battery. If that's good, you may need to have the alternator tested. You definitely need to wire the hids with relays. Then if you're still having problems, put a capacitor inline before the aftermarket amp.

I have a capacitor in inline before the aftermarket amp, so it isn't that and no I'm not using a relay for the HID kit im running it straight off of the stock harness. I have Aftermarket headlights, which have separate high and low beams, so the HID kit is not a bi-xenon. I wired them per manufacturer specs that came with the headlights (headlight came with the HID kit as a combo) oh and this also only happens when I turn the auto lights off for some strange reason.

Umm I've never messed with the stock sub before, I disconnected the aftermarket amp and I still loose sound out of the rear speakers but like I said, front speakers and tweeters and Stock sub still have sound.

Well you should still throw a relay harness on the headlights. If nothing else it's just protection to keep everything running smoothly. It's only like $10 to wire some up and about 30 minutes to put them in.

right we get that the problem is going to be some sort of ground loop. why when u turn the lights off idk but we

so once again does your LOC have a ground on it and is it in use? what kind of loc is it and is the wiring legit?

I'm assuming it's a line output converter.

Ok, I tried that and its still doing it. I think I have a ground loop somewhere because with the stereo off, when I press my brakes I can hear a faint bump from the speakers when the brake lights come on. Oh any info on that relay?
