How to add more wires to the door?

when i put the car away for winter, i want to do a full audio system (new HU, amps, speakers, sub) and possibly add an 8" mid bass speaker to the doors too...

this is going to require running new wires into the door, i gave it a quick look over and noticed the door has a plug on the end of the boot where it comes into the car..

has anyone had their doors off to give me a heads up on what to expect, is their a way i can run new speaker wire to the doors and a 12 gauge wire if i put in the mid subs?

Edit: 2006 SS/SC coupe

ya you can run the wire through the rubber grommet/tunnel thing that the stock harness is going through. just run a feeder through, attach the wire and pull

it almost looked as if the plug was the only thing going threw into the inside of the car, like the only way to add more wires into the boot was to add more wires to that plug. i could be wrong i will take a closer look tomorrw

nope it all can be moved over. its a pain in the ass running the wires though so be prepared for some frustration

There is a plug there but it comes unattached and you will have to pull it away from the rubber boot to get the wires through. And like stated above, be ready to get frustrated by all means it is not easy but can be done.

I added terminals to the plug and made mine like factory. I'll say it was well worth the time spent to have a door that still just unplugs.

that seems like alotta extra work why didnt u just splice into the wire that lights the little lock symbols n what have you. this way it also dims with the dash dimmer its quite entertaining for morons with the attention span of 3 year old like my self

i did it this way because i keep everything i add on a seperate circuit, this way if something goes wrong with the circuit its not taking everything else with it.

well i have 3 reasons why i need to run NEW wires to the door:

1- LED's (that turn on and off with the ones that are not in the door)
2-wanted to put bigger wires to the speaker (might not do that anymore)
3- I want to add an 8" mid bass speaker to the door so i will need speaker wire for that

I took a drill bit and drilled out some of the blank spots on my molex connector since I have an LS, but seeing you were an SS that may present a problem since you have power stuff. I did a remote start and more importantly, a power lock retrofit and had to run the wires that way.

I also Drilled out the Molex connector and ran wires, a 12 guage and a 10 gauge speaker wire so far. Took a while but wasn't too bad.

Also a 06 SS/SC, so there is room in the stock Molex even with all the Power window/locks stuff.
