Thumbs up How does the system look?

I just built the box, and the board for the amps. I might be adding a crossover and a Cap

And a picture of my car for the heck of it, how do you like the headlight by the way?

Badass man.

What is your complete system setup and what did it cost in you in the end if you don't mind me asking?

I want a setup like yours..

The kicker amp is on ebay for about 200 the speakers were about 100 for both on ebay, and the jensen Deck was 425 ish on ebay, then you have to buy the harnes which i found on ebay for 100, which is cheap for the lan 03... the pioneer amp i think was about 150, and the 4 pioneer speakers were about 120 altogether... soooo $1095 building the box and stuff was not added in though.. another 50 bucks for carpet and all that ****... most of the money was in the deck though! i think it was worth it though! I personally think it looks really tight! good luck with your system!!

yea.. i have another kicker amp and actually two more 12 inch subs.. i think im going to sell the two subs, and maybe run two kicker amps for the subs and the pioneer for the speakers...

caps are bad, they only hold for one hit and your electrical system is constantly trying to charge it.... which costs more electrical wise than just drawing it from an amp

shortens the life of your alternator

I never actually checked to see what my draw was, so do you think just wiring in a second battery would be better? or what do you recomend? by the way your like a hour away from me.. thats tight

I mean, its a 750 wat kicker, and a 600 wat pioneer.. but i dont know the actual draw

what amperage fuse are you using from the battery now? or add up the amps on all the fuses on the amps

parallel batteries are the way to go, for sure. just buy a yellow top and hook her up.

surprisingly good... if ur looking at a good upgrade i would swap out the stock battery with a good AGM deep cycle first and go from there

that jensen deck was 425?? dude you got RAPED... i had a jensen just like that and paid less and i bet the volume turns up way loud when you turn the unit on huh....., but i upgraded to a pioneer double din and its the greatest decision iv ever made.. nice subs, but it would be nice to have 2 kicker amps.... sick none the less.

425 is with shipping, and yea it was the cheapest i could find it new... but thats a bummer if you did find it cheaper....and Acutally when you start the car it starts at volume 1 aND gradually increases to 15... and the volume can go all the way up to 40... the reason i only have one kicker amp is because i wanted everything to match... I have the kicker amp on the kicker subs, and the pioneer on the 4 pioneer speakers.. thats the only reason i did it like that. but thanks for all the props!!

And are there more people that second the "caps suck" theory? let me know what everyone thinks... cap vs second battery vs just replacing battery????

yeah i know what u mean bro... it gets annoyin with those jensens... i contacted audiovox, who owns jensen and they said "thats just how their built... "

your set up looks nice, now i know what you mean about the amps..

but yeah, i just installed my alpine speakers inside the cabin and dam what a difference it makes... its sooo nice and crisp!!! i love em

props to you though man.

its all really a realative price point. a cap does help but they are really most effective in smaller systems. A cap is simply made to stabalize voltage and they are actually quite small so on bigger systems they dont work effectivly and end up hurting more then anything.

Swapping the stock bat for a good deep cycle allows you to push your system harder and drain the battery more without effecting the battery as much.

Adding a second battery effectivly doubles your AH and capacity but since you still have the regular lead acid batt your limited by it somewhat. If by chance something happens and it starts getting a memory then its all down hill from there. Its a hell of a lot easier to just swap batts and add a second deep cycle later then fight with the stock batt

what about as far as like the alternater goes... what do i have to look for when i replace the stock battery? And the alternater can handle charging two batteries? do you mind explaing that a little bit further for me?

an alternator is really ment to maintain the batteries not charge them. When ur going with 2 batteries u want to hook them up in parallel (pos pos neg neg) and really look at them as a single battery because they act like one. Main thing u need to worry about is capacity or AH (amp hour) and how crazy u are. 90% of the time a dual batt system will be perfectly fine on the stock alt

Upgrading the alt is by far the "best" electrical upgrade because all the power comes from the alt but most dont need that much less a dual battery situation. How many peeps say "i swaped to an optima yellow and everything is awesome" in reality that battery isnt that great but when ur system isnt crazy and u dont go around town playing bass mechaniks at full blast for 12 hours straight then really anything will do.

Look for a AGM (a___ glass mat) deep cycle battery. This is a sealed batt so u dont have to worry about acid leaks or any of that crap and its made for high capacity and to resist getting a memory from deep discharges. Take a lead acid batt to 10v and its dead for life. take a deep cycle to 10v then all it needs is a good trickle charge (alt maintains memmer not ment to charge)

By the way thanks for all the help Emperor

I think one of my favorite things about the Cobalts is the battery mounted in the trunk. That just makes life so much easier for everything. =D But, I do like your trunk...everything is really clean. I am going to upgrade the stock 10" soon, and maybe retrofit another 10" on the other side and make a box for that side too. Has anybody seen that done yet?

ive seen people put subs on both sides if thats what your asking. most will do fiberglass, although, i saw one guy who made a wood box on the left side.
