How to make a Double Din Fit??

I have already put a single din radio in my car and I now want to upgrade to a Double Din. Was just wondering how hard was is to remove the bracket behind the radio. I looked a little when I put my single din in and it looked a little tight in there. Did you guys cut the plastic that was attached to the bracket in the back. My plan is to put a Pioneer double din in because I already have the SWI-PS. If you guys could just tell me how you did it that would be great.

cut the plastic and remove the bolts/metal bracket. it requires a pretty small ratchet and either a 8 or 10mm (i think 10)

I still have those bolts there 9/32 or 7mm

Your best bet IMO is a rachet style screw driver, preferably a stubby one, with one of those rachet atachments that bend in the middle.
Or if you have air tools an air rachet should do nice.

Emp- I've herd you say 10 mm on this one a few times, so I have no doubt that yours were 10mm, but I'm looking at mine as we speak and there def. 7mm. Do you think maybe they changed them with the 07+, seems thats the year they decided to change everything

I just pulled on the plastic till it broke off and then pushed the metal part in. It was enough to get my d3 to fit.

I didn't actually unbolt mine untill after the damn thing was out, I cut it out with tin snips.
It was not much fun though so I don't suggest it

Some HU don't require the bracket to be removed, it all depends on the unit, not even the brand, My current HU would not have needed the thing removed but the one I had in before, a single din Panasonic, stuck out like an inch

nah probably not i don't remember well because it was by far easier for me then i expected. after hearing the horror stories i allotted myself like 3 hours just to do it and it took under half an hour. and i spent some time dremling the plastic to make it look "clean" after breaking it

oh ya ill agree on the whole idea of diffrent hu's fitting. my single din did stick out and the kenwood probably wouldnt if it werent for all the bullshit i have hooked up in the back. seriously thou if theres something to connect i have it ran. lol even if ill never use it (other then hd/sat radio)

Pioneer Avic D3. It was a very tight fit and had to push it in a tiny bit when I put the mounting screws in but it doesn't stick out at all and I have had no problems.

Thanks!! that is what I want to put in. Good to know I shouldn't have to remove the bracket.
