Question Huh?

Ok,
I've been thinking/wanting to install a new radio into my car.
I have some features that I would like it to have.
I Try to read these forums to find ideas ect...
People keep talking about something called a
"Head Unit"
What is a "Head unit"?

I talked to some guys at Best Buy, they said
that some of the name brand radios can be
set up to interface with the steering wheel
switches if I get some extra cable mount for it.
That data is consistant with data that I have
read on here.

I remember going to the Dealership one day to get an extra set of keys
and one guy had a radio out of a car and I saw that it was not very deep.
Most aftermarket radios like at best buy are fairly deep so how
would a new one fit?

Hey insylem,

I work at best buy doing installations, what they were saying about the steering wheel control is based on what head unit, deck, radio etc.. you purchase their is a specific one for the "brand" you buy. The ones we carry are from pac-audio.com so just check that out and you'll get a more understanding of what's up. Side note what you saw at the dealership is correct you do not have a lot a room behind the deck so some cutting is needed i suggest getting it professionally done if your not comfortable doing it otherwise.

I work at best buy too, and fit the alpine w-900BT in without issues, unless it's shallow. just had to tuck some wires down below the area and mounted my BT module all the way down by my shifter. So much crap in there.

Just finished putting in a pioneer DEH model into my sisters 2007 cobalt (took me about 2 hours)... Honestly, if you have no clue what a headunit is... have a pro put it in... I'm a computer technician by trade... and sometimes I even find this stuff hard to figure out... but if you can read wiring diagrams you should be gtg (and aren't afraid to get down and dirty).

If this guy knows about performance mods i'm sure he can learn about car stereo....I don't know everything there is to know about car audio but ****, I knew as much as him three years ago. Anyone can learn it. It's better that he's asking people questions now than doing it with a complete lack of knowledge and really fubaring things up.
