Lightbulb I built a heads-up display (HUD).

Hello all,

Back when I had my 2000 Camaro SS, I wanted a HUD. So I built one. I'm making all the plans free for anyone to use. It's not an overnight DIY project; you need some serious skill to make one of these. But, I'd rather "give it to the people" than have it go to waste.

It should work with almost any 1996 and later GM car (any VPW based communications protocol).

Here's the site with all the info and downloads. Please share it with your friends.

Have fun.

Projecting at night.

All display elements on.

I did a quick check and think the point he is trying to say is that he doesn't want to build them because he'd have to charge that much for time and parts, but if someone out there has the money to burn he would make them one (i.e. people with tons of money and no time/ability/desire to do it themselves). I like building stuff too but there are some things that are too time intensive that I'd never make money if I wanted to sell something, and I definitely don't have free time to burn to only make five or ten bucks an hour for example. For me my limited time is worth well more than that.

It appears he's documented the stuff so you can build one yourself which is the main point of the site and it does look interesting. Always cool when people are willing to share their work that's probably taken many, many hours of research as well as trial and error to develop.

i agree. i would never try to do this because i suck at electronics, but it's still cool that he did all the work and posted it up for others to learn from.

And to add some fine print onto my last post, it wasn't meant as an endorsement since I don't know him, but it is cool of him to share his work. Just because someone appears one way on the internet doesn't mean they won't take your money and/or never deliver a product. As with anything, especially on the internet or mail-order, always do your research before dropping money on something and do everything you can to protect yourself.

...how so? how could this possibly be a scam? only thing i could see that might be false is the fact that this is teh exact person who made the original...other then that...hes offering the info for free...so how do u scam someone when there is no money transfered and also no need to give your info to him??? scam..i think not.

Hehe, I assure you I'm me and I designed and built the whole thing.

I changed the pages to make it more clear that I don't want to sell them. But you know, someone will email me asking, so I put up $1k to ward off those questions. I don't expect or want anyone to ever lay out that much. In fact at $1k, it's not profitable for me. If they were mass produced then $1k would be like minting money. But the only one in existence and any others that people may make on their own, are hand made.

I also put a simple set of steps on how to make one. However, the people who have the skills to make one would have already known those steps.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
