Installing Python Alarm - Base Model Cobalt

This week I'll be buying the Python 990. I'm planning on installing it myself. I have pretty good knowledge with electronics, so I figured why not. I have lock actuators, so that isn't a problem. The dealer pre-installed a cheap keyless entry alarm, so I'll basically trade it out and connect the remote start. The lock relays and stuff like that are already set up so all I'll really need is the ignition bypass. I'll get a wiring diagram for my car from work (unless someone on here wants to jump on DealerWorld and hook me up). So I think I'm pretty much set.

Is there anything else I should have in mind? Where's the best place to mount the alarm's CPU?

Thanks.

Alright, I just got home from work. I talked to one of the mobile installers there and he said I need a DEI 556UW (http://cgi.ebay.com/DEI-556U-556UW-I...QQcmdZViewItem) and a spare key (I found one here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-07...pagenameZWDVW). Now with the key, can I easily get it programmed? Will the dealer kill me in price to do it? Also, could this be extremely difficult to install? I'm basically tapping wires, correct?

Do not, I repeat, do not attempt this install unless you are 100% sure you know what you are doing. Remote starts are not something that anyone with a little electrical knowledge can just jump right in and master. I am a certified installer and it took me about a month to learn how to do them quickly, correctly, and clean. I have an 07 ss/sc and I put a remote start on mine and it's not as easy as it looks, especiall if you are going to use a 556. I used an OM-GMC-6 bypass so I didn't have to lose a spare key. Maybe if you had like a 95 Civic I'd say go for it cause those are nothing, but you are going to attempt something you aren't familiar with on a 07 GM car. Save yourself some time and money and let the professionals do it.

I completely understand what you are saying but I do have a complete understanding of electronics. I just haven't done this specific task before. I realize there is a lot of stuff involved, but I feel with the proper information I can tackle the job and have a nice feeling about it when I'm done (and I can save $150). I have the time to do it, and I'm saving money at the same time. I'm looking at this optimistically and I feel pretty confident about it. I'm just asking for advice and I understand the possible difficulties.

The spare key thing isn't a big deal, and the 556 seems like the most straight forward without problems. Also, this alarm system should come with a wiring diagram, correct? I already found a wiring diagram for the 566 and the wire list for the Cobalt...

Stay away from those dei remote start bypass kits, there garbage.Get one of those transponder bypasses and put the ring around the ignition switch. It works like a charm.Oh and good luck with the install, your gonna need it,lol. These cars arent like the average car.You have to know how to interupt the ignition wire for the remote start to work since these cars have no starter wire.

Alright, so looking away from the DEI bypasses...which is probably the best way to go (and fairly cheap priced)?

So is that ring visible at all times or does it go under the plastic somehow? It seems pretty straightforward and I like the price...
