Inverted Subwoofers

Does inverting the subs (magnet on the outside of the box) have any advantages over having the subs in the traditional configuration?

Yes, if looks is an advantage. Otherwise no. A speaker pushes and pulls egually and would create a frequancy on both sides of the speaker. That is why a speaker is mounted in an enclosure such as a box. The lower the frequancy being produced the more important the separation is. If you do mount the sub upside-down be sure to reverse the + and -. (change phase 180 degrees).
