srry if this is a repost, i used search with no luck. My buddy jus gave me a free amp his cousin had given to him. its a sapphire legacy LA995. 600w 2 channel. the reason he gave it to me is because hes not sure if it works or not. Im jus wondering if anyone knows how i can try to power it up n see if it works without tearing apart the car. (i have an 07 ls with 4 speaker sound system) I know replacing the fuse might help if it doesnt power on right away, but for now i just need to know how to try to power it on and check to see if it works

 

Well.... it all depends on how good u are with electronics.. my bro is a wizz at that ****, he hooked up a whole system in his room using a computer power supply... it powers his amp, and HU... its pretty sick..

for ur situation, u could ground it, and run some wire to the positive battery terminal... then, run some wire to the fuse box so when the car turns on, the amp will too.

 

so basically jus connect the power wires to the battery n a fuse n see if it turns on??? or do u know of a way i cood test it inside, without going to the car

 

ummm yeah, basically... and yes, u could use a computer power supply to test it out... BUT, i dont recommend it if u dont/have any experience with that cuz i dont wana be held responsible for any damage u may cause....

 

alright so imma jus wait till tomorrow. i gotta do some work on the car anyways so ill jus test it then. any particular fuse?? lol or jus pick one n hold the wire to it?

Just need to connect +12V to the "+12V" and Remote terminals and attach a ground wire to the Ground terminal and it should come on...there should be a LED somewhere indicating that it is on.

That will at least tell you it turns on, might still have other problems you won't know about until you hook a signal and speakers up to it.

 

If your just trying to see if it turns on or not then just use a 12volt power adapter, like the one that runs a cordless phone, or a security camera, but do as stated above and split the pos. into 2 and run it to the remote and power, make sure you fasten all the connections before you plug it in, It will at least tell you if its getting power or not.
Sometimes amps light up and have power but still don't work, only way to test if it fully works is to hook it up in a car (or find a 120 to 12 converter that will put out 40amps or so) and let her fly.

 

alright well imma jus test the power for now and then whenever i find someone with a system of their own, ill jus plug in my amp n test it on their speakers

 

thats probably the easiest thing to do....

 

Go to a stereo installation shop and I am sure they can help you out, and they should not charge you anything for it.

My bro has a 2007 Pioneer model HU, an MTX amplifier, a Kenwood 12" sub, and 2 pioneer 6x9s.... its hooked up to his TV and computer with the RCAs and that thing BUMPS... its tight dude...

But DAM, thats a lotta speakers u got goin there..

 

only prob is i dont have computer power supplies lol. imma try it out tonight and if not ill bring it by best buy or circuit city or something

alright. ive come to 3 conclusions, need u guys to pick one lol. what i did was, connect the power wire to the the metal rod next to the fuse box, wit the red cover that has the + sign on it and put the ground wire to a metal piece in the engine bay. nothing.


the amp didnt power up when i tried to make it work so its one of the follow.

1. ***** just broke
2. fuse is blown
3. im doing something wrong and i didnt have any power going to it lol

 

well you need to hook up the power from the car to the power and remote on the amp... also usually for testing purposes a fuse isnt really nessicary

 

as seen in the pic there is 3 spots to connect wires to: power, ground, and remote. When i got the amp it only had wires to power and ground and i assumed the remote wire wouldnt be necesary. So is it possible that i do need to connect the remote wire, and if so where would it go?

 

doesnt matter what wires are there or not there... a remote is always nessicary. Very very very few 12v electronics have "smart" remote turn ons and they usually also include the normal remote terminal

oh and for god sake use at least 10g power and ground wire if this test works and you hook it up to your car.... and i can guarantee it doesnt make 600w

 

so where would the remote wire connect to?? i know where power and ground go. u garuntee it doesnt make 600w with the wire im using now?? or in general?

 

For testing purposes ONLY

Power to '+' terminal
Ground to '-' terminal
Remote to '+' terminal

 

so both the power and remote go to the battery and the ground goes to the negative or any metal part. alright. if it was to be hooked up in the car, where would the remote go??
