Keeping steering wheel functions

I searched and I cant find a clear answer. When getting a new head unit put in how do I keep my steering wheel radio remote controls? The guy at Best Buy said a sony or pioneer would mate up but reprogramming would have to be done for around a 100 and I know a little about car audio and that sounds odd. If I buy a wal mart harness and re pin it will that keep it or can I buy any type of head unit? Thanks Dave

price of the pac SWI unit with installation at 100 sounds about right (120 is what i charge)

but installing the radio and such shouldn't be too expensive. you can use the cheap harness/kit. part numbers in the FAQ
