L61 ECM on a LE5

Ya, sounds dumb. Bear with me....

Wil a 2.4 LE5 phisically run with a 2.2 L61 ECM hooked to it.

I'm not looking to make power. Not looking for fuel efficiency. ALL I need it to do is run - even if it runs like a dog.

i dont think they will even plug in. crank trigger wheels were different between the l61, le5 and lsj, so if it does plug in it wont fire. not to mention that the l61 lacks cam sensors, cam actuators, and has different injectors.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of the differences, with the exception of the crank sensor. I'll need to dig into that.

I was guessing that the L61 ecm would not plug in, but even if it did I would still need to build a custom harness regardless.

the crank trigger wheel in the 2002-2006 l61 is a 7x, the other engines all use a 58x crank trigger. there are differences in the l61 le5 and lsj 58x triggers though, the "missing teeth" are in different locations. from what ive read the lap and le5 are the same.

what are you trying to do?

Anything 07+ is interchangable. There are operating systems for the 2.2 and 2.4 on both the e37 and e67 ecus.

Youre right. 06+ 2.4 and 07+ 2.2 are interchangable.

Definitely not plug and play though. There will be wiring and flashing of ecus involved.

I can handle the wiring. But I'm trying to avoid any flashing of the 2.2 ecm.

Would the 2.4 even start / run with the 2.2 ecm installed? Keep in mind - it JUST needs to run - no matter HOW unrdriveable / poorly it runs.

I have an 06 LE5. I would like to make it appear that it's a L61 if anyone plugs into the OBD2 connector. I do not have a L61 ecm yet, planned on getting one from a salvage yard.

This is going into a competition car. I intend on using the stock LE5 ecm, stock location. I intend(ed) on installing an L61 ecm under the dash, and wiring it into the existing harness, then only power one ECM, dictated by a switch position.

if your gonna do something that slimy id think of going a step further and build an le5 with an l61 head. that makes the engine look the part, eliminates all the vvt and sensors, and would allow the engine to be run by an 07 l61 ecm, at least in theory.

if your limited to a 2.2l, you could run the 2.4l with an LAP ecm. from what ive read, they are the same aside from displacement, so the lap ecm should run a 2.4l.

Theyre never gonna know its not the stock ecm tho. If you use an 08 2.4 file, it will go right onto the e37 2.2 ecm.

the L61 ECU seems to no longer be supported by Trifecta for tuning, so I would avoid it.
