looking for a good 12"sub?
looking for a good 12"sub?
hey guys i'm looking for a good 12 inch sub decent i like bass i've had subs before but i want something thats very clear more clear than ridulous bass.. thanks guys and maybe a good website to buy from too thank...
#1 pimp my ride is bull ****. If my first system was a premade best buy random nonsense and hit a 138 on the termlab and their 22" jackhammer hit a 130db what does that tell u?
#2 we were talking about sound quality not SPL. there is no such kicker product in any sq comps and yes they sound like ****
take sensitivity with a grain of salt. there isnt any regulation on how subs are tested to get that number.... but assuming u have a correct number what it is is the volume at 1 watt 1 meter away. So a higher number means it will get louder with less power

Yeah I know right, everybody knows your supposed to use super glue, what were they thinking...Screws?? Pffft amazing there still in business, even more amazing how they are the biggest custom auto shop on the west coast.
I have a 10" Alpine Type-R which hits very nicely. It takes 500 watts RMS and very clear and accurate. What you want is a sealed box for SQ, the ported boxes are more for SPL.
Crutchfield is good for 2 things. They have a lot of reviews on there and they have a good selection of things to choose from. That being said, they are way too overpriced and brand new audio gear on ebay is the one the best ways to go. Used audio on ebay is a really risky proposition. You never really know how bad someone's been abusing their subs.
Whatever you get just make sure you have a box that is the right volume, the rms wattage is matched for the speaker and amp, a clean install, and you should be happy with whatever fits your budget.
You can also find what you want then use pricegrabber to find a good website, then check that website using resellerratings. I use resellerrating for any internet purchase I make with a lesser known website. I buy a ton of computer stuff and its served me well.
I've also picked up 2 pairs of Infinity Kappas on ebay new for dirt cheap too, so just keep your eyes peeled.
I also recommend quality components that run on a separate amp, if that's not possible find quality components that match the rms of your existing setup (i.e. if you're running off the head unit).
We could get into which speaker is better by frequency or mixers are all that stuff, but I'm not an audiophile and this is really a good way to get a setup that's satisfying without doing a ton of research.

u are damn retarted. u stated that kicker sounds good nothing about how they are made and this and that. kicker subs sound like **** period. they get loud but sound like ****. Oh and if you want to start challenging me then come down here and ill show you whats up
I agree with audiobahns and pioneer but have you even heard alpine type-r's? And the Type-E's really aren't too bad either for someone on a budget. I think you might have heard some improper setups in ported boxes with crappy amps and someone trying to go for total spl. Kicker L7's are really nice but I've never had problems with Alpines. But I guess to each his own, I'm more for fill and accuracy.
Too many people are suggesting ridiculous bass subs, like kicker L7's. The first post specifically said he wants good sounding bass, not just ridiculous loud bass. That means he wants SQ subs, not SPL subs like L7's.
The main thing the original poster left out was the price range they are looking to stay in. For lower prices, Polk, Boston, and Infinity subs would all be good choices as long as you are looking at their higher end lines. Stepping up a bit in price, Digital Designs 2512's would be a good set of subs. They are quick and warm, yet if you dump a lot of power in them, they can also produce some really loud bass. If you have deep pockets, look at Morel's, Digital Designs 9100 series, 9500 series with composite cones, or 3500 series with composite cones, Realm, Arc, and Genesis subs.
