Ok guys its time to get some bass and some good mids and highs

I have a pioneer deh-6800 head-unit

Good door speaker?
Rear deck?
Im only going on 10" in the trunk, who makes a good sub?

I'm not looking for anything special no show car, I listen to a lot of hardcore and rap, i have found that the bass just ain't there with the stock stuff =(

I only run Alpine speakers in my car right now, but it honestly depends on your budget. The optimal setup for what you have told us is a good set of components up front with good 6x9s in the rear on a 4-channel, then a single 10. But you could spend $1000 on everything or $6000+ easily. Just gotta let us know how much you want to pay to play.

 

ya you could have the greatest speakers in the world but you hook them up to a crap amp and your gonna get crap sound, well not as good as they can be. so while your at it make sure you look into amps as well not just for the sub but for your speakers as well.

 

How do those alpines sound?

Probulary looking at $120 dollars for front speakers
Another 120 for rear speakers

and sub and amp i have no idea what the budget is

Look on Ebay. For 120 bucks a pair, you can get some quality speakers.

Alpine Type-R stuff is supposed to be quality.

If you're simply looking to upgrade, 6.5" for the front, and 6x9 in the back.

i would spend ~200 on the front speakers and the extra ~40 for the rear speakers.

 

i'm running Infinity Reference Series speakers in the doors and the rear deck. Don't have them hooked up to an amp and I get excellent sound and pretty damn awesome bass for not having a sub in my car. i have a stock ls and i love them. my bro picked them up for me at best buy as a christmas gift.

 

those speakers, honestly, don't sound like anything not on an amp. trust me, i own then, pop a four channel in and they'll sing.

 

Spent 200 on Polk and I love them. Crutchfield has a buy one pair get the 2nd half off. Circuit City had the same deal when I bought mine.

 

When it comes to speakers you can not take anyone's word for it. Every speaker will sound different to every person. The best way to see what is good for you is to listen to them. Head over to Circuit City or BestBuy or somewhere and play with their displays and see what sounds the best to you.

 

I had the same speakers in my car, had them amped up and everything and yeah I thought the sound they put out was good too. Then I swaped them out for a set of Hertz and turned my amp up (the infinity's couldn't handle much more than 90 watts) Its like night and day.
You can pick up a set of Hertz components for roughly the same price as the Infinity's, sure not the crazy ones but even there lower priced models are good speakers, better than most out there in the same price range.

IMO, I wouldn't go with 6x9's again in the back, go with 6.5's or 5 1/4's the sound that comes out of 6x9's...I dunno it just aint the same, thats just my opinion though.

If you're in that price range the Reference Infinitys arent a bad deal since you wont have money for an amp. And definitely don't get the Alpine Type-R's if you're not getting an amp. 70wrms rating means those speakers will blow in a heartbeat since they will be so underpowered.

 

I'm running a Pioneer DEH-7000BT headunit along with MTX Audio X-Thunder Triaxial 6x5's in the front with MTX Audio X Thunder 6x9's in the rear along with a Rockford Fosgate Punch 4Channel 900Watt amp.


It sounds amazing, and I am in the market for some subs.

Haven't decided on whether or not I will do a ten or twelve.. but I am leaning towards the Alpine Type-R 12inch sub.


Or MTX... lol


I love MTX Audio. And Pioneer. And Alpine.


It's all personal preference.

But you should know better than most on this board that any speaker will blow faster being under-powered than over-powered. Especially a 70wrms coax speaker being run off of a 40ish watt headunit.

 

not really. its all user dependent. 100% If your running off deck power and you never clip it and distort the speakers they will run just fine. Now you can run an amp for more clarity and volume but not "necessary"

 

this is kind of a myth.... where this started was folks running way too much speaker on a radio and cranking it WAY up. what happens is, the amp inside the unit cannot keep up and eventually starts allowing the speaker to do all kinds of silly ****.

what you need to remember, you can't send electricity anywhere, it gets drawn by a circuit. So, in the world of car audio, matching a speaker to the power source is important.

Generally speaking, after market speakers can be lumped into 3 groups.

First, you have speakers that are made to be direct replacements. They're comfortable on any headunit from stock to aftermarket. (the whole "aftermarket headunits are like 3 times more powerful than stock" isn't really true anymore). a decent pair like this can usually be had for under $50. they're a quick, cheap way to gain better sound.

Next, you have speakers that while they COULD be ran off of a seperate amp, don't need to be. These midrange units cost a little bit more, but are good ways to go if you plan on using a four channel in the near future. This is generally the nicest speakers that you'll find in a retail store like best buy.

Last, you have the big boys. powerful speakers that require a big ballsy amp. Often several hundred dollars a pair and up, these are not for the timid. These are generally the sort of speaker that only sounds good loud, and IMO are overkill in 99% of uses.

 

how ballsy are u talking about? ive done several 100w speakers off deck power.

it would be fun to play with some triple stack beyma drivers. but i bet they would do fine off deck power
