Need new Tweeters...help?

Let me start off by saying that I want to keep the stock door mounts for the tweeters. I want to keep it in a reasonable price range. The tweeters i have now have definitely blown and i need something that can handle a little more power and sound a little more clear. I don't kno the stock size of the tweeters or really what i need to be looking for. Im new to the tweeter section in car audio...

thanks for your help!

You really shouldn't be looking for just tweeters.
You should be looking for components, 6" or 6.5" with 3/4" or 1" tweeters and heres the really important part, something with a x-over. The stock system is designed to run at 2 ohms so I would look for something that is build to run at 2 ohms.

I personally like the Hertz lineup or the Focal lineup but there not cheap and I don't think they run at 2ohms.
The Infinity series run at 2ohms and are decent speakers for the price, look at the reference series.I had them for a while and they were def. better than the stock speakers but not as good as my Hertz, there also about half the price of the Hertz.

The stock tweeters have the mounting holes built right into them, so finding something that lines up the same is going to be hard, however there are to screw mounts that stick up where the stock ones are and simply putting something across it to "strap" the tweeter down will work. Even that metal ribbon with the holes in it that you use to hang pipes will work or if you go to the hardware store in the section where you find L brackets there should be some metal strips about 2" long with 3 holes drilles into it, these will work.
If you use something metal be sure to tape it up so the metal does not contact the magnet on the back of the tweeter.

If you read my sig, the only components i haven't replaced are my 6x9s and my tweeters. I already have 6.5's, subs, 5.25's...Im just looking for a tweeter that i can put into my stock location.

Basically what you're telling me is that im not going to find a tweeter to directly replace the ones i have? what size should i get then if im going to be custom mounting them inside the door pod. and what brand and model should i get?

You can get any tweeters and just ****** superglue it to the inside. no body can see the inside from the outside. It doesnt have to fit perfectly and bolt up.

I have these...

I as well though cut holes in the stock panel. In my opinion just stay away from metal tweeters, they sound too tiny. Silk is where the clarity is at, at least from my experience.

Sorry I hadn't read your sig.
I agree with Switt23, silk is where it's at.
Please dont just superglue them in, if they blow or if you want to change them later its going to be messy getting them out, always think for tomorrow not just today.

IMO 3/4" would fit into the stock location the best, I had 1" in there for a while and it was a little tricky to get the panels to clip back in, 3/4" gave me no problems.

The tweeters will not be that hard to put in although i don't recomend it you could in all honesty use ahalf of a popsickle stick to hold them in, i just don't think the popsickle stick could handle having a screw put through it without cracking or spliting all to hell, but you get the picture.

When its all sid and done to cut holes to mount your new ones is as easy as getting a 3/4" wood drill bit, drill ahole in the plastic and the tweeter will have come with all the rest of the hardware to mount it flush. so its not pain staking or time consuming it just needs you to have a little faith in your abilities.

ill show you how i mounted mine, i didnt use superglue, my buddy from a body shop did it he used some stuff, im not to sure what its called, but he mixed 2things together then slopped it all around the tweeter and it hardend in like 15 secs. it looks like meltedplastic, but ill show you its awsome, they stay in there great, and if i blow the tweeters, alli gotta do is cut around the tweeter, use a little elbow grease pull it ut and put a new one in. its not that hard.

ill take a picutre to show you guys.

2 stage epoxy probably... essentially the same as superglue, just more pliable.

Like spun said, they come with flush mount cups. Mine also came with direction and angled cups.

Thats a tough one, it all depends on how you like your high end to sound, some people like it a bit soft and some people like it a bit "tingy" (lack of a better word) others like it in that "I want my ears to bleed" range. Price plays a big roll too.

This is what i can tell you, stick to a company that is know for making good front end equipment, just cuz they make great subs or good amps does not mean there going to make a decent sounding tweeter, stick to a silk cone (stay away from the aluminum foil ones).
Personally I like Image Dynamics, Focal, Hertz and silk AVI tweeters sound awsome, but those are all going to cost you alot.
Stay away from JBL, over priced, bad quality, MB Quartz used to be top end but they fell off so stay away from them. I could tell you to go with the same company as the speakers but i reallly dislike the pioneer tweeters so i won't do that. Thats just personal preference though so take it with a grain of salt

For a good tweeter that won't cos't you to much try the Hertz Energy line (not the High Energy, unless you have the $$ to spend on them). The Energy line is reasonable and better than most of the equipment out there in the same price range. I have them and they came with enough harware to mount them about 10 different ways, including directional like Switt23 was talking about.

well no offense man but i was searching some of those brands you recommended and i didnt find very much. I like to stick with stuff im more familiar with like JL and Pioneer and Alpine and stuff like that. I will definitely look to get silk tho, thats for sure. and i should go with the 3/4''? and look for somthing with different mounting options? anything else?

The majority of the brands that spun recommended are German based brands. Very high end stuff and sound amazing, but he is right in that you have to have deep pockets.

I have the pioneer C720prs components (retail at $600, but sell on ebay for $240-250ish). They are driven by about 160watts rms and love it. I have deadended the door and pillars and it blew my dad away.

I would also say it depends on what type of music you listen to. Like Spun said, are you looking for warm vocals or are you looking for sharp snare sounding? I can put Keith Urban in and it sounds like he's singing 3 inches from my windshield. I put in something with a drum line and the woofer takes over.

The JL Audio components weren't horrible when i heard them in my co-workers camery, but for the price I thought he could have done better. I like my pioneers, probably wouldn't change them out for much, unless i won the lottery or got a fat promotion.

All in all, easiest way to pick... go listen to them. We can describe the best and the worst, but your ears are different than mine.

big diffrence from metal dome and silk dome isnt clarity or volume. Silk is alot warmer and more natural sounding where as metal sounds crisp and often harsh. let me tell ya once you go silk you dont go back

i agree with both spun and switt... pioneer makes bad door speakers except the PRS comp set. Other wise i would stay away from them. Mind you price wise the prs is about the same as some of the high end sq stuff spun was speaking about

I've always compared the metal tweeters with that of a tin can, it sounds like those really bad MP3 tracks like its coming out of a tin can.

Ok so things are different from here (Can) to the US so I looked at a place that I know you all have Circut City, there wasn't much but I did find one set that looked decent for a good price

There 1" Polk Audio's , now thats a little big for my taste but there still good, there a silk/polymere combo and can handle 180 watts
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-...l.do#prodspecs

Now there not the best out there but you wanted easy to find and thats all I could do since I don't know the places to look in the states
