New audio mod

Buddy of mine was selling the armrest lid with a built in iPod dock that he made and I picked it up. Just installed it and it works flawlessly. Completely hidden install so no wires are visible which is what I wanted.

Here's a YouTube video of it all:

Is that a top pot doughnut receipt I see on your backseat floor? If so....YUM!!!

NCC-2000 09-07-2011 12:23 PM

Uh, nope, don't even know what that is. Just a receipt that fell down there and I was too lazy to get it til now.

paintballerr78 09-07-2011 12:24 PM

outtamymind 09-07-2011 12:24 PM

looks like a petro can receipt to me

klloyd 09-07-2011 12:46 PM

I thought about doing this with my armrest but wasn't sure how it would come out since I just bough tthe thing.

RKRamos 09-07-2011 12:48 PM

I like the idea, but it seems a little inconvenient to have to reach back to change a song or something.

NCC-2000 09-07-2011 01:21 PM

That's where the steering wheel controls come in.

RKRamos 09-07-2011 01:24 PM

Oh sweet! well if that's the case why not put it in a more secure place? I'm just wondering not trying to bash on it.

NCC-2000 09-07-2011 01:28 PM

I don't plan on leaving the iPod in the car when I'm not in it, so it'll be fine.

RKRamos 09-07-2011 01:30 PM

Cool.

nizzle 09-07-2011 01:31 PM

does it charge your phone at the same time..... mine does but I have an aftermarket H.U. Also, mine displays all of the ipod/iphone info on the screen and I can control the ipod/iphone from my H.U. as well

riceburner 09-07-2011 01:32 PM

haha thats really cool! i just ran a cord and a little gromet for the headphone plug to the cig lighter under the ebrake... shits always in the way and everyones always in my way of shifting changing the song... this is dope tho. just gotta make sure the screens off before u rest ur arm on it or youll be changing songs all the time and shit lol

toeknee(ss) 09-07-2011 01:41 PM

This is awesome how did u do it.

barrett 09-07-2011 01:54 PM

I like this a lot. I don't have steering wheel controls and I hated having to full with the Ipod whenever I wanted to change the song so I bought an Alpine head unit, and my Ipod stays in the passenger side compartment all the time, wiring goes straight into the compartment from behind the dash, so nothing is visible. However, I really really like this idea it looks sweet! If I had steering wheel controls this would've been my option of choice!

It charges the iPod yes, my phone doesn't fit in the spot. Well it does but it won't lay flat so not very good to leave it there. The iPod is connected directly to the deck so it displays the song info and all that too as well as controlling the thing. It's the same thing as running the iPod cord to the USB port on the front of the deck, except this way it's all hidden from view.

Updated the video, didn't like how dark it looked since it was done at night in my garage, so redid it in daylight.

This is great, but I don't quite see how it works. Can you show us some pics of the install or explain what exactly you did to accomplish this? I'd love to not have to plug anything into the USB port on my 09 radio.

MastaShaKe_88 10-21-2011 04:34 PM

Ya wat he said^^

You must have the Personal Audio Link added to your stereo...best of my knowledge only with that will your ipod charge and display info on the deck as well as being able to use steering wheel controls.

C_A_D88 12-21-2012 10:01 PM

If u plug the iPod into the USB port it will do all the above, he just hardwired it into the back of the deck as far as I know but the stereo thinks its plugged into the USB port
