New install: keep auto-dimming?

Hi everyone. I'm looking into parts needed to install a Pioneer DEH-6700BT into a 2006 Cobalt with the basic audio system /no onstar. Couple of initial questions after reading quite a bit in this forum:

1) I want to retain auto-dimming when exterior lights go on. I have read conflicting info about this. I've read in this forum that with the 70-2103 basic harness you can't accomplish this, so I'd need to spring for the C2R-GM11B. But the instructions for my HU state that I can connect the orange/white wire to the car's "illumination signal". Does anyone understand what that is referring to, and has anyone been able to do this with 70-2103?

2) If I do need the C2R-GM11B for the above, then is it possible to disable the chimes on that unit, so I don't get redundant chimes?

Thanks for any advice!

ive done it with the cheap harness but i wouldnt really recommend trying if you dont know what you are doing. Looking at the manual for the C2R you can change the chime to off
