New member, a few audio questions
Hi guys, ive been lurking the forums for a while, and I figured now would be a good time to post.
I have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS. I have all of my stereo system already from my previous car. I have a Kenwood DNX-5120, with 2 Kicker Solobaric L7s.
My first question is about the dash trim color. I have a silver one with the red and black seats and door panels. The dash trim is silver. I see on the website that you can buy red or carbon fiber. I would probably buy red to go with a red and black theme. But what it shows on gmacessories.net is only the radio trim piece rather than the climate control area which would end up remaining silver, as well as the steering wheel pieces around the buttons. Is there anything for sale on the market that would be all black or red, with the steering wheel parts, dash parts, climate control parts, and the trim where the door and window controls are, all matching the same color? I think after that the headunit install would be easy. With the 5120 its basically like a regular headunit install with both harnesses, correct? I know the AVIC D3 uses the vcc or vss wire, that wouldnt apply to this radio right?
My second question is with the new headunit, can I keep my stock amp and stock back sub hooked up and just wire the headunit up like normal? Then to add subs I would just run the rcas from the headunit back to the amp and wire all that up correct, and that would keep the stock amp for the stock sub as well as the stock speakers?

not sure on the GM accessories colors but you can get the heating controls in black.
the 09 uses the speakers for the door chimes so if u want to retain that u would need the expensive gm lan harness otherwise a cheaper one is available. im pretty sure the kenwoods don use the VSS wire but the GPS instead. You can retain the stock amp as well. I wouldnt really recommend keeping the stock sub along with ones yoru going to add. That normally causes a bunch of cancellation

Ok, I might scratch the Sub. Does the amp run the other speakers as well? And how would I go about removing the sub and wires to the sub while leaving the amp for the stock speakers?
I dont care about the GM door chime, actually I would rather them not to be there. However I might get a PAC unit to keep steering wheel controls. How about onstar? Will on star still work after replacing the stock headunit?
If anyone else knows about the dash pieces let me know. Thanks guys. My name is Kyle by the way.

basically all i want onstar for is the emergency crash response. im not going to pay for the onstar services or the onstar turn by turn or the built in telephone. so i assume this will be disabled as well?
