Noobie needs help picking subs and amp.
Noobie needs help picking subs and amp.
When I first bought my car I put Kicker KS components in front and rear and a 12" CompVR in the trunk with a ZX400.1 amp.
This was fine back then, but now I have a kid and a 2nd on the way(kids=lots'o'****) and the sub takes up too much space. Initially I thought about putting a sub in the spare tire location(still a possibility). Then I thought about making enclosures to fit in the recesses behind the wheel wells. I think this is a much better idea. Harder...but better.
So with space being a concern I've pretty much decided on two 8" shallow mounts. A single 10"(or 12"???) shallow mount on the driver side is also a possibility.
If I go with the two 8's idea, there are 3 that I've found.
Pioneer
TS-SW841D - 8" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer with 500 Watts Max. Power | Pioneer Electronics USA
Kicker
CompVT | KICKER
Kenwood
Kenwood - KFC-XW800F
Recommendations? Also what amp would go good with the one you recommend?
Moving on to the 10 or 12 on the driver side idea...
It would again be between those 3 brands.
Is 12 even possible without it sticking out past the wheel well?
If I go with this idea, which sub would you recommend? Which amp to accompany it?
Music listening habits to consider, mostly country with occasional 70's and 80's rock so crazy car shaking base is not desired.

Ok so since 30 views and not a single suggestion. I'll decide the sub.
For simplicity I think I'll go with the single 10" on the driver side.
TS-SW2501S2|S4 - 10" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer with 1200 Watts Max. Power | Pioneer Electronics USA
Specs are 1200w max, 300w nominal, 2 or 4 ohm.
Can anyone recommend an amp that would work well with that. Or at least what watt amp I should be looking for?
What's throwing me off is the 300/1200. Normally it's 300/600 or 600/1200.
Will my current amp work? It's rated at 400w 2ohm.

go on with whatever sounds good to you thats the only way unless you know exactly what you want and can afford, or you will hate yourself for buying it. btw shallows aren't exactly the best sounding subs.
JL amps are superior. so whatever sub you end up deff go jl, as far as subs go, jl is also superior. memphis are nice too. all kinda pricy though. im running MTX Jackhammers which are "decent" not the best but deff not the worst. gets a good range but mine are 12 inch.
JL(according to their site) only has a 13.5" and I have doubts about that fitting behind the wheel well. I even have doubts about a 12" Memphis has a 10" though. Can't seem to find it online. Only last year's model.
i was just putting out options, ive got a pioneer stock sub if you want and you can upgrade it with another sub, doesn't sound to bad, maybe better than the pioneer under the seat, but i can't really say much on the matter. also for the amp as long as its around the same rms power as the sub can take it should sound good, just don't overkill it, any brand is fine but as alot of people will say you get what you pay for.
