I know what an optima is, but when you guys refer to "deep cycle" are you talking about deep cycle as in can take a prolonged power drain? Cause if you are, they aren't designed for starting, and if they were used for starting, that would cause most of the problems you are describing.

A true "deep cycle" is designed to run under load for extended periods of time. At "starter battery" is designed to deliver a most of it's power in very short spurts, but as everyone knows will die quickly under load.

If a deep cycle is used as a starter, it will short its' self out, and have a use life of less then half of what it should.

I'm not preaching, but I deal with this everyday, you'd be surprised how many people just don't either understand/don't know the difference between the two.

You get to spend some quality time with the parts guy at the local auto parts store because you'll be taking it back quite a bit for warranty replacements...

Get this DO NOT get an optima yellow top. Optima is JUNK! Read the link I posted up on page 2...

http://www.interstatebatteries.com/e...Type|0||Rank|1

Not to mention that Optima does not list a direct replacement for the cobalt on their website (as a matter of fact they don't even list the cobalt on their website...)

because the top posts on the yellow top are too high and bump up the carpet in the trunk

I agree I have an Everstart from walmart and optima is a marketing scam bunch of crap if you ask me .. Used to run competition SPL DBL drags in my lumina and all batteries are batteries . I just get one with the best warranty and Cold cranking amps that will fit. If you want it to "last longer" unplugged or sitting for a while. hook up an alternate battery. Or just buy a jump kit

i have a kinetik 2400 in the stock location, granted i had to rip out the stock battery mounting area, and has to raise the trunk about 3.5" inches, it works and is great

I've gone through 6 red tops in the last 4 years in my Camaro. If they weren't replacing them under warranty I would be getting an Interstate...
