This one I'm slightly confused with. I finished wiring the Metra 70-2104 harness to the deck (with a couple not connected) however I have a feeling I'm not getting any power due to the constant 12v red wire not going anywhere. It did come with a ACC fuse wire which I don't mind setting into the fuse box, but at least the unit should power on while the vehicle is running.
I reinstalled the stock radio and everything works again at least, but I would like to resolve this.
If more pictures are needed, I can definitely provide.
You have to have the 12v constant wired in to supply power
Either way, that's needed. OK, that makes sense then.
Last time I did this, it was with those RCA cables/harness.
I'll have to print out the fuse box panel again. I heard the best place to hook into was the power windows fuse since power continues until I open the door with the car off.
There should be a red wire on the 70-2104 kit and a red wire on the stereo harness, if there isn't a red wire on one or the other they didn't send you the right stuff. Red isn't constant 12v like everyone else already said, red is switched 12v that comes on with the key. Either way, just match up the two reds if they are there. Yellow is constant 12v (for memory I believe).
I would also connect the orange wires, that's so the stereo dims when you turn on your headlights (you can set it to how much you want it to dim), much easier than going into the settings at night when it's too bright. For some reason a lot of people seem to leave that disconnected even though IMO it helps a ton. And hook up a bypass to the parking brake wire, or ground it out at least (IDK how it is on the 2700 but my 4800 needs that grounded in order to access most of the options, and has to be un-grounded then re-grounded to get the DVD player to work).

By no means am I trying to be disrespectful but Empire is our main radio guy. The guy is a professional audio installer and if you look on any thread started asking questions about radio installs you will see his name giving the answers.
he was close ish... The 2104 harness is just wires not a module box so hooking up the red ACC to the red in that harness if it even has one wont turn on the radio. As well the orange illumination wire wouldn't do anything either. The car uses data (GM-LAN) to tell the radio when to turn on and when to dim so it doesn't have the 12v that an aftermarket radio needs to do those functions. There are ways around both of those however. For the ACC you can find a switched power source in the fuse box which is conveniently less than a foot away. You can also find an illumination wire in the car but that would require a little more effort and knowledge then most people have (i did it on my old car)
It is red, as Emporer stated, and from my pictures in my first post.
The Orange/White (from Pioneer's handbook) is the one that does the dimming
during certain daylight conditions, which I notice if I'm in a tunnel, or just simply
driving at night; so I'm wondering with the newer models of the radio that you
don't need that extra bypass.
I don't know, since this was my first double din setup. My '05 and '08 both had
the single din unit that didn't bother with the illumination.
My secondary thought would be the dash illumination (the turn knob by the
fog lights), where I could tie the radio's illumination to that somehow, that would
be the cherry on this very delicious cake.
maybe. i mean ive only jerry rigged it once but im sure theres a few different spots that could work. The wire needs to be 12v when the headlights are on and 0v when they are off. any difference has the potential to **** off the radio (the horror stories say it fries it but idk newer tech shouldnt be so fragile however doesnt mean its not)
