Subs pointed directly at eachother will should like crap unless properly done, somthing to do with noise cancelation.

It would only cancel if the second sub output was exatcly opposite the first. Although I imagine you'd want to be real carefull to make sure both subs output the same thing at the EXACT same time (i.e. wire lengths and wire type)

If the subs are in phase, they will AMPLIFY the bass volume. If they are 180 degrees out of phase, they will cancel each other out.

The positioning and pointing them toward each other has little to do with it.

Cancellation

Subs pointed directly at each other, and wired properly will definately cancel. Its called destructive interference. If you change the polarity of one of the subs it will sort of be isobaric and will sound ok. Not as good as a true iso but not like total crap. Seems like the money could be better spent on a better box though. The factory one is kinda small and weak for a big BOOM.

No, I disagree. Please point to some factual data that shows this.

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu...nd/interf.html

You see, if anything two subs firing in phase cause CONSTRUCTIVE interference. Having them fire OUT of phase will indeed cancel the sound via the destructive interference principles.

Please explain to me how any cancellation occurs when two subs are firing in phase with each other?

If I'm wrong, I would like to know where my understanding of waveform science is incorrect.

all i know is that the stereo place said if I put a sub on the other side and face them towards each other, it will sound like ****. if that helps you, cool

Phase

Depends on your interpretation of "in phase". I stated wired correctly, meaning + of amp to + of Speaker. So If you apply a positive voltage the speaker moves Out. Like I said if you wire one of the speakers backwards it will sound ok.
BTW I have built ISO enclosures and have also built systems that have won IASCA and USAC events (class only, not best of show) while I was in college and I have a BSEET.

I still think you would be better off buying a Qlogic enclosure and a decent sub, and facing it towards the read of the vehicle.

One more insteresting constructive configuration is the subs firing @ 90 degrees. This was very popular in the early 90s and called "folding" it gives a free 3db gain.

pointing subs AT eachother does not allow for the sounds waves to fully "expand"...they will hit each other causing a break down of the wave....this is why it is best to face the sub towards the back of the trunk (the wave bounces off of the trunk immediately and expands towards the front of the car....and why putting down the back seat makes for greater bass response - the sound waves have more room to expand.....the trunk alone causes cancellation and pointing them directly at eachother will too

What he said. I've tried all positions and seats down subs facing back is still the best.
