First of all its a radar detector not a cop detector. You need to set it to where you are diving, IE: city or highway. Or buy a batter one like the V1

Should only be 2 modes available, highway and city. My Escort 8500 adjusts itself automatically, but I think the city mode is less sensitive.

Just because you go past a cop does not mean your detector will go off. In order to pick up a radar signal, the cop has to actually have his radar on. Most of the cops in my town drive around with their radar on all the time (they use X-band here in NJ), but sometimes they'll cruise around with it off and then "instant-on" certain vehicles, which is real ******* activity

You just have to get used to how your detector functions, and learn which frequencys in your area are cops and which are traffic lights, ect.

i know with a lot of radar detectors, city mode will beep at you once and just continue to check the radar.. where as highway mode keeps beeping at you as you get closer to the radar source. and with going off at lights and stuff like that, X band is rarely used by police anymore, you'll normally pick it up passing stores with automatic doors and whatnot. the ones to look out for are K and Ka band.

i bet the City All mode picks up everything, City X picks up everything but X band, and Highway Mode picks up everything but lets you know further in advance. Thats my guess anyway.

What is the BEST radar detector. regardless of price. one that will detect everything. Like laser, K, X and all the other new stuff?

I think the Valentine 1 is a bit over priced. Also, I have read numerous places that the latest version with POP radar detection (which cannot be disabled) is very annoying with lots of false signals.

I'm a Passport 8500 user myself. Got mine on sale for $250.

i have a 100 dollar cobra radar detector and have had no problems, it picks up pretty much everything a expensive one does, i dont see the need to spend hundreds of dollars on a radar detector

I like Belltronics myself, same thing as an escort. I have the Belltronics Pro-series. It has City, Highway and Autoscan wich is what I use, it has been very good to me.. But it has all the options, like POP etc...... Cincinatti Microwave, the maker of Escort actually bought Belltronics because their technology surpassed Escort, now they have all the same stuff on the inside.

I dont mess around with the cheap-o detectors... I got a passport 7500.. I'm thinkin about gettin rid of it and gettin a V1. They are so much nicer and they update the software on them for life.

I know 3 people with them. It'll pickup a gunnin cop from a mile away.

Since this post is open i would like to ask a question also. Ive been really needing one lately but I dont want to get busted with it. I live in Ottawa and drive most of the time in Quebec. Im not sure if you guys know this but Quebec has the harshest laws for possesion and use of a radar detector. Do you have to put it up in the window? I mean if i could hide it. Or get one this is undetectable by police. A friend of mine got pulled over in motreal and the police came up to his window and named the exact radar detector he had in his car. Also he was doins 171kmh. He lost 7 points off his licence and got a 1200 dollar fine for the gadget.

Face it I still want one. Is there one that could fit my needs?

Radar Detectors...

I spent the extra money and got the latest V1 and I couldnt be happier. But it is only a radar detector not a cop detector. I think total it costed me $444.somechange but it has more than payed for itself already. I drive like 30 miles on the PA turnnpike everyday to school and I cant stress how good this thing works! I've had zero false PoP detections. i think the like i went to, to order my v1 was v1pop.com or something. i got the link out of a road and track or motor trend mag. and for blkss i dont know who makes them or where u can find them cause i havnt looked into it but there are some detectors (really expensive ones i hear) that mount sensors in the front and rear bumber and have the display mounted where ever you want.

I have the Passport 8500 X50 and it works just great. I have mine set for KA and Lazer and I keep mine on HWY mode all the time. I dont even bother with X, K or POP cuz its just a waste in the Twin Cities.

i was watching this thing on tv the other night about the latest detectors coming out which i think come built in some of the rediculously fast cars. there is something that somehow blocks the radar until youve slowed ensuring that you will never get pulled over speeding. i dont know what its called or where you would get something like that but it seemed pretty cool...especially since i have a speeding issue.

BLkSS - radars are illegal in canada for the most part that i know of. they also have radar detections devices to know who is using radar detectors. So if you have one in your car and its on they can detect that then they will pull you over for it. So its really not worth it. They drive fast enough in Canada where a radar isnt a necessity anyways. Everytime i go to Montreal they are all usually doing atleast 80+ mph.

as far as the best radar i have to say id like the Valantine One which i do have. I havent gotten it upgraded to Pop mode yet basiclly cuz i wont be able to drive my car w/o my radar and w/o getting pulled over. so ill just have to wait on that upgrade if its worth it

v1 is overpriced
i did a side by side comparison with it and an escort 8500 x50

the v1 falses SOO much more
their detection was virtually the same, the escort detected the signal longer

escort detected true 360 degrees, v1 had trouble picking up a signal from a cop perpendicular to me

whats the only advantage of a v1? the arrows it has
but is it worth it to pay an extra $150?? thats for you to decide

but ill take functionality over bullshit arrows anyday

Thanks for the good thread. As for Canada I think its leagal in most provinces except Ontario and Quebec.

And bad girl, I know laborghinis come with intergrated radar detectors that can scramble radars to falsly give out speedlimits. Cops could clock you going 200 but they would only see 100

Based on reviews and personal experience, I'd say the two best detectors on the market are the Passport 8500 X50 and the Valentine V1. The arrows are definitely useful, but I can't say they are worth $100-$150 over the Passport 8500. Its more a matter of personal preference and budget than anything else. I have the Passport 8500 X50, and have been very satisfied with it.

Are you guys serious about the integrated radar detectors in Lambos?? I've never heard of such a thing. Do they actually "block" or "scramble" the radar or are they just integrated detectors?? Because from what I've heard, "scrambling" radar is a criminal offense, so I can't imagine Lambo wuld include such a device in their vehicles to be sold in the States/Canada

as far as I've heard.... there aren't any car radar jammers/scramblers that work.
