RDS harness

my good friend works at best buy, and we looked at my factory head unit, and he said that the rds harness would be best. it unfortunatly is 120 bucks , but its worth it. its the only way u dont have to bypass the factory amp, and lose the factory sub. it just uses the RCA outputs for the amp, so you dont double the factory amp, and fry it. all my stuff is on its way, so we will see. my goal is a completely wire-splicing free install. i dont want to cut into ANY factory wires, and i need to be able to return it to stock, so we will see.

yeah, i know the harness you are talking about. It is designed for bose, or other gm upgraded sterio. All you do is use the rca output from the deck to the rca input on the black box. It works great. You keep the factory sub and everything.

I'm getting a 12" sub, amp and aftermarket headunit installed at a shop, but I need to obviously find the wiring harness and installation kit, could any one give me an idea as to where to get these. I tried bestbuy in my area, and they don't have either......

I do have the pioneer upgrade, if that needs to be said...

ok guys, first off: that harness i discussed was for RDS, and onstar, and we dont have RDS, but that particular harness harness has RCA inputs for the factory amp, so you dont double-power the factory amp. i tried that harness you have listed above, its def no good. factory sub works, but the speakers are all high pitched and sound terrible. trust me, just get the RDS harness for the malibu that has the RCAs on it, its worth it. JIVE, you can use the malibu dash kit, but it needs to be slightly modified to fit the cobalt, b/c one for it doesnt exsist yet. here are pics of my system, with the malibu dash kit and RDS harness (behind dash, obviously lol)http://www.*************/gallery/show...r=1580&cat=500

Kelleyperformace: How about this installation kit click here Where's the best place to get this harness? The shop I'm going to get my system installed at sounded pretty confident about knowing how to hook my system up...is there anything that I should make sure that they know before they start working on it. I have a LS with the pioneer system. Thanks

mike, that is the only kit that will come close to fitting easily. all you have to do it cut those little plastic clips off the top and shave the sides of the braket. but as you can see on my car from the link above it fits the dash fine. i got the harness from best buy, also i think sound advice has them. um the only thing i think your shop should know is that with that harness its not necessary to bypass the factory amp, and to make sure they test the stereo for more than 5 mins b/c the amp turn-on wire is tricky. mine cut in and out every like 3 or 4 minutes b/c the remote wire was causing that to happen. i think they hooked up the amp wire to the acc. power wire for the headunit.

Kelleyperformance: Just to make sure because I'm getting the install done on Wednesday, this harness will allow for the stock head unit to be removed completely from the car right? In turn still allowing all the air bags, gauge cluster, and so on to work properly? Thanks alot.
