Rear Panel Behind Back Seat - Vibration
Hey there,
Just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem. The rear panel behind my back seat directly underneath the rear windshield is just a POS little thin piece of plastic basically. The SS is a great car, but I have noticed that this particular panel, (and the parking brake handle) are the 2 buzzkills of this car lol... Anyway, the panel keeps rattling at random times (fairly loudly). I do not have any aftermarket speakers of any kind at this time, nor do I have the bass turned up at all on the existing factory system, in fact it is actually turned down a bit. I even notice it sometimes when taking off to a normal driving start at low rpm's. I know that this is probably a common problem, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed it this bad. Furthermore I was wondering if there is a specific way to correct it better than anything else. Would something like a Dynamat kit do the trick for the most part or some other padding or something? Just wondering. I have never had to use anything like that on my vehicles so I have no experience with the materials. Also, to the people who have aftermarket subs that provide a descent amount of bass, does it sound good in the cab or do you notice an intense rattling? Any help/tips would be appreciated. BTW it's an 05'. Thanks!

those little plastic thing in there rattle quite a bit... if you take the plastic shelf off you can have it recovered with black fabric to get rid of those plastic things
throw some towels under the rear deck... Im pretty sure getting in re uplostered isnt going to do much. the piece itself isnt even plastic is more like a mix of cardboard and hardboard and its physiclly moving so you must put something soft under to prevent its movement
yea see thats more of what I was originally planning on trying. I have been sick lately and its freezing outside so while I was inside on the pc i figured I would ask for a second opinion. Thanks for the help. I will give it a shot when I get a chance!
I get a rattle from the back too. Though it doesn't realy sound like the deck lid as I'd think that would be kind of a muffled rattle or rubbing noise.
I originally thought it was the latch on the drivers side back seat because it has some play in it. It would still do it with the back seat down, so now I think it is the plastic tubing that covers the back seat latch cables. If you tap it, it rattles like crazy. I'll probably wrap the tubing in adhesive foam when I begin my system install and see what happens.

No offence but thats not going to help much... and i probably have the most sound deadening on the rear deck that i know of. (3 layers on top, one on the bottom and ~ a quart or more of liquid deadener on the top)
Ehehe Damn, sounds like you have waged war on this little rattle.
i actually had the dealership check out the exact same rattle on my car, and they said it was one of the brackets/ screws had come loose. they fixed mine about 2 months ago and so far it has been oh so quiet. if ya want it fixed for free and correctly take it to a dealership!
I had rattles coming from my trunk as well so low and behold I got in my trunk looked up and directly where the trunk light is a bunch of holes. I put my speakers on and listened for the rattles and it was the metal in these holes rattling. I cut some soft foam up and just stuffed it into these slots and the rattles stopped. Also your rear wing could be making noise as well. Our amazing aerodynamic wing moves at high speeds haha.

Holy hell! Will you haveto put $600 under the hood to get back up to speed with all that weight? I'm sure the sub is the real kicker though (pun?). I noticed the extra weight on my last car when I put a 15 and the massive box in the trunk.... though, I think it fought to make 100hp.
