Rear view camera in trunk key cylinder hole
Rear view camera in trunk key cylinder hole
I got a little creative with my Eclipse rear view camera for my AVN6620 DD Nav/DVD unit. I figured I didnt need the key cylinder in the trunk so I had an idea and I think it worked out very well. The ring around the camera was sprayed the same color as the car and I used the existing rubber gasket that was used with the key cylinder and assemled it all together and made sure it was all weatherproof so no chance of any leaks at the wash. The level of the camera is perfect!! I also am posting some other pics of the audio install going on right now. We are set to have it completed by the end of the month.

Being that I have the highrise, I can see why you'd need a camera lol. What if your electric popper happens to go out tho? You can't crawl in through the seats cuz they unlatch from inside the trunk....

Got that figured out, you can boost the car from under the hood and there is the trunk release button inside the car as well as the factory remote to pop it and I have a clifford alarm/starter where I can open it with. If all that fails then out comes the cutting torche.lol
I had also thought about going wingless but I have my GPS antenna mounted inside the highrise mid section of the spoiler. I just hate having antennas on the roof..They just stand out like a sore thumb. The factory XM antenna was bad enough so I had that painted to match the car as well and just use that antenna for my Sirius unit.

looks like a nice set up, I'll be doing the same Cam in the Trunk key whole thing with mine eventually.
Your amps look a bit close together, The RCA's for the Sub run right on top of the High Outputs for the 4 channel...(and there bent pretty tight too.) Just be careful.

seems like allot of people like putting their camera in the key trunk hole. The only problem I have with that is that it is mounted high and sometimes you do not get a close view of the ground below you. The whole point of the rear view cam is to get better rear view visibility. With the high back of the Cobalt it is hard to see anything on the ground close to the car. So basically you can reverse over a little kid close to the car.
I mounted my Kenwood camera right above my license plate and it has great visibility range. Not to mention the night view. I can basically see anything right down to the ground within close range to my rear bumper.
Here is a pic of my setup.

Your like a big Eclipse billboard
Are we aiming for sponsership
I do have some questions-comments though
What were you planning on putting in the hole on the drivers side?
Is that cap mounted in the port on the box? That can't help with air flow
Those RCA's on the right hand side gotta go, even if in the end you won't be able to see them, quality wise they are not the greatest
Other than that nice work, lots of attention to detail
