Remote start questions
Remote start questions
Can you add the oem remote start to a 2007 chevy cobalt? If you can't, which I'm guessing.. What would be a good, one button remote start? Thanks so much in advance.
I like the oem set up, how like when I hit unlock the headlights light up if its dark. I just think it's kind of cool. I work at circuit city, so i guess I could get any they offer for a good deal. I like the new Directed Responder Le, but I really just want an OEM one or a One button one.
If you have a factory keyless entry, they make an add on remote start so u can use the factory remote.I think audiovox makes one(prestige/pursuit alarms). The only thing that sucks is your limited to the range of the factory remote.I forget the range of our remotes, but its nowhere near the range of an aftermarket one.If you park your car on the side of ur house,it might be good for you cause you dont need long range. If you park your car around the corner like me,your better off with an aftermarket alarm/remote start.I have a clifford avantgaurd 5 and the range is awsome.
Oh god somebody shoot me I'm actualy about to agree with "the kwc"
I just got a Compustar and it rocks, took a little work to get the remote start to operate but lucky for me I had a great bunch of installers who really put a lot of time, effort, and I'm guessing a lot of frustration into solving the problem.
Go with Compustar, I went with the P2W9000FM-AS but it might be a little overkill for some people, as long as its FM then your alright

OK it all depends on what you want from it.
Alarms are not cheap, and if they are then you shouldn't waste your money on them, they wont work
What is a must IMO is a 2 way alarm, one that pages you. 9 times out 10 most people pay no attention to car alarms (mainly due to those cheap ones that go off every time the wind blows on them) so it up to you, if you don't know the alarm is going off you can't do much about it. A shock sensor, or glass break sensor or even a mass sensor (those ones are a little to sensitive IMO). You want it to lock and unlock the doors and since the Cobalts battery is in the trunk a hood pin is not really needed but always a good idea, however spend the $$ and put a trunk pin in. Anyone can dissable your alarm simply by getting to and disconnecting the battery so make sure a starter kill is installed, sure they may be able to take some of your sh*t but your car is going to stay where it is, trust me there never the same once there stolen, and unless they smash it into a brick wall at high speeds your insurance company wont write it off
If you don't care about range try the P2WSHLCD-AS at http://www.compustar.com/main.htm its got alot features but its AM so your limited to 700meters on the remote range, but its one remote that will do it all

Well, sounds dumb but my form of an alarm is full coverage insurance haha. I have a completely stock Cobalt. I just don't see it being that desirable. Well anyway, the stock alarm is perfectly fine for me. The only thing I want to add is a basic remote start. So anyway, does anyone know if it is possible to add the oem remote start or not? Also, any good suggestions for a 1 button remote start, or opinions on the Responder LE from directed.
being someone who has a factory remote start system, trust me when I say this, dont waste your time. Next time you're at work go back to roadshop and talk to your installers. Last I could remember you got the python 1400xp for like $125 on accommodations. I know where I have seen vehicles that you could add factory RS, the unit was $150, plus install (which I dunno how much that was off hand). But being that you're a CC employee, you'll be able to get a much better unit, with far greater range, for the same if not just a tad bit more than a factory setup.
im not saying that compustar and viper are not as good, to each their own, but if you would like to add one, these are def 2 of the greatest companies out there..
In my honest opinion if your gunna be taking the time to hard wire the system in (Tapping the break pedal, the ingition pin, etc) I would only want to do all that work for the best I could get.
Don't get me wrong, i understand that a lot of people like to stay stock for resale reasons, but if I were buying a car and it had a stock remote start and the exact same car right next to it had a Viper alarm/remote start i would be all over that one.
2 Way Paging, Dome Light contorl, like 1/2 mile in range, all the auxillary inputs that come with.
Just think it over and cost analize it all. Is it really worth the money and trouble to install it?
