Remote starter!

ok. so for christmas my girlfriend got me a Viper 5101 remote start kit for my Balt and im wondering if anyone has or has installed theyre viper remote starter themselves. im just curious on how hard it would be to install. will i need anything extra for the install from what comes with the kit. is there anything that i should look out for. ha and if its really complicated then do you recommend just getting it installed professionally. i would love to save the money if i can so any help would be loved. thanks guys

I have an avital remote start which is made by the same company as viper, and had it professionally installed. There appears to be quite a bit of wiring. If it didn't come with instructions, then they should be on the internet. If you feel comfortable, then do it yourself.

I'd recommend having a pro install it. It's not too terrible in older cars, but our cars have quite a few more wires than most. lol

it's not that bad...but if you don't have a basic knowledge of 12v systems and how to use a multimeter, i'd stop where you're at lol. The bypass modules these days do everything for you....matter of fact i'm helping another poster on these forums with his....the idatalink alca gives everything but the brake wire and the ebrake wire...other than that you just need to hook up 12v+, ground, ignition, accessory, and a couple PK3+ wires and it's good to go....however, since you have a DEI remote starter, you might want to go with an xpresskit since you can plug it in data to data to make the install MUCH faster and easier...

i don't recommend either tbh, but the xpress and any dei remotestart/alarm/keyless (avital, clifford, viper, etc.) works with d2d solely with eachother without issue.....if you plug a idatalink into a dei remote start data to data, you'll have issues down the road, guaranteed....however if he was going wire to wire instead of the 4 pin plug, definitely i'd recommend idata over xpress.

i will say, however, that the new DBALL by xpress is dope as hell, and does some things the idatalink ALCA can't in some cases.
