Securing a sub box?

How are your subs secured? I'd prefer not to drill into my car if I do not need to. Velcro will not work as it will just move around the carpet from my experience, or it may not be too bad with the Cobalt since the carpet is glued to the particle/card board. There is a bolt coming through on the floor that the power wire attaches to, is it strong enough to bolt a bracket to and then screw the bracket to the back of the box? Single 12" box.

well here is the way i see it, carpet can be replaced for about 30 bucks, a sub box, amps, back seat, speakers and dents will cost a hell of a lot more

this is how im going to do mine, as of now i have four alpine type r's with a alpine pdx amp (small as hell amp) but i didnt wanna screw it to the floor (because i was gonna move it around for the sub box to get in) and i didnt want to screw it to the sub box) i used some heavy duty velcro (4 inch by inch pieces) on its feet, and it takes some effort for it to move, when i put the sub box in tho with the added top weight i will use the velcro on the bottom but will most likely have to add box brackets to the back

now i see where you are coming from with the power line screw, problem is the power line (if looking on the back of the trunk) runs on the rightside of the car and also makes the carpet bulge, so to make the box sit flat it would have to be on the left side of the trunk, problem is theres no screw there to tighten down to.

heres my suggesting, a few 1/4" or 1/8" holes will never be noticed, but a couple dents and dings, carpet tears and problems will, secure it properly and it will never be noticed, now depending on the weight of the box, maybe secure the carpet with the power line holes?

The board/carpet that covers the spare tire well is not that strong to start with. After a while with the sub on it its going to sag. Place a board thats larger than the bottom of the sub box ((give yourself 8-10 inches on the sides) under the box. Now screw it in to the sub box it self. On one side of the box drill a hole in the extra wood that now sticks out from under the box. Line that hole up with the screw from the power wire, put a washer and a nut on it and your done, I know its ghetto but it does the trick, it does look better if you lay some carpet on the wood before you screw it into the box. I had 2 JL 10w3's in a huge box bolted down like this and it work for me. Youll have to drill into the wood a bit to allow the washer and nut some room to thread

what power wire screw are you talking about?

The most secure your going to get is a false floor. Probably make it 3 pieces to leave the wheel well open and keep the floor itself from moving yet still allowing it to be removable

my turn my turn.

By heavy duty/industrial strength velcro from wal mart. Gurantee you it will hold it. I have used it in cars, and it has held up for 4+ years without budging

I have also used it in my car now for 1 1/2 years, and the box has not budged, nor has the floor mat slid at all. Just for perspective, its held a mtx 7500 sledgehammer box in place, and it has also held two seperate 12" enclosures in place without any movement

What i ended up doing was screwing down two pieces of wood, (carpeted) the bigger on went from the back seat untill just after the wheel well, the second piece (about 15 inches, give or take) was attached by hinges to the first one, it also was wider to cove some of the area where the stock sub was and the other side, it could open to get at the battery and when shut was locked in place by magnets, like you would find in a TV stand. It worked just fine for me, I used 3/4 inch MDF.

The screw sticks up out of the floor on the passenger side closer to the front, the only reason I mentioned it is b/c he said he didn't want to screw into the car

I attached large stripes of Velcro to the bottom of my box then as if gravity isn't enough the Velcro holds onto the carpat and DOES NOT let it move! No matter how hard I drive it its stays put.
