sequential tail lights?

so im thinking about wiring my trunk lightts with some leds but i want them to be sequential
so they light up like this
inside first then outside when i hit the blinker
o
oo
o
oo
somewhat in that pattern
and then when i hit the brake
o
oo
hold

but i also want them to be running lights

can anyone help me figuere out what kind of resistors diodes or modules i need to make this work? if i can have part numbers that would be great...a schematic would be even better

havent seen anyone do this yet and i got the idea after seeing a mustang do this...the only difference is that they have 3 lights and i would have 2

bump

maybe ask some of the newer model mustang guys, I see a few around that do that with their tails, they may be able to help you out a little better.

I believe its a whole circut board thats installed at the tail lights. I just did a quick search on google to find it, www.AmericanMuscle.com is whre I found them. Its a new wire harness that plugs in to the factory one. Idk if you can modify that one or not.

hmmmm...thanks for the link....ill have to look into it...or maybe i can find a universal fit...i know impalas have a kit as well....but im not trying to spend so much money for it not to work...if i can figuere out whats inside the circuitboard im pretty sure i can wire it up

i seen on ebay they sell a kit for corvettes..but its 100...do i really want to spend that much for it not to work?

I dont know DO you?

Have you found one thats only two lights with the one, two and one, two hold pattern? If so you might be able to cut the factroy plug/slpice in and wire it.

You could do this with a couple of capacitors w/resistors that charge and discharge to light up the lights sequentially, and then use a relay turn off power to the blinker circuit when the brakes are applied, but you'd have to either know electronics pretty well, or know someone who does to get it to work properly.

Once I get my car, and if I have some cash laying around for projectors I might wire something like this up for the LEDs in those.... I'll post it up if I ever do it.

EDIT: found this. Should give you a good starting point... keep in mind your LEDS will be higher wattage and need different resistors, but the concept remains the same.

and this - actually designed or brake lights... not exactly the operation you're looking for, but it comes with a parts list

I knew someone would find a how-to on this. That doesn't look too bad...

This would be a tough, but fun, wiring project.

I have a couple emails-

here-

"Are you sure that they are both brake/turn lights? If so, then you can
likely install the STS-2 splice-in kit.

If you are looking for a plug-n-play harness, send me some pictures of the
harnesses, the back of the tail light fixture, the sockets, the connector,
etc. I'll take a look and see if it's something we can do.

they make sequential lights for vetts, malibus, and many other cars.

send the guy some emails to show interest.

so this guy will build a splice and play if enough interst is seen....it would be cool if it came with led strips pre wired.

this way we can just install the led strip cut the harness and splice the module or watever...and forget about all the headache of trying to figuere out what resistors or watever we need
