speakers
I have used Dual brand white cone "Illuminite" series speakers in my father's car. For a $40 pair of coax 6.5" I was floored with the SQ. They use 1" silk domes along with 2 little pizos to keep it crisp. The midrange is good and they swing their little hearts out to try and make bass. They sell 6x9 versions too. I picked up a pair for rear fill in my balt, but have other plans for the doors.
It put to shame the much more expensive alpines I had in my previous car.

i personally have heard these in a friends car and they do not sound good at all, i also do tons of home/car/marine audio installs and you're right that for the money they aren't bad, but they wouldn't be my choice. i would go with alpine type x components in the front and the type x 6x9s in the rear.i love the type x's
while i do prefer the very high end speakers i really havent herd a single dual ive even close to liked. I vaugely remember a set that sounded similar to what u were describing but i cant say for certain ive herd those exact ones but theres so much better out there. I have herd worse thou sadly enough
OK, while Emperor says there is no best sounding speaker, that's both true and not true. It's up to your ears...what you think is best versus what someone else thinks is best.
Go to some stores and listen to different speakers. We could give you a hundred brands/models, but it's up to you (how much you want to spend and what you like both sound and styling...although you won't see the speakers most likely).
I personally have had Pioneer, Kenwood, Polk, RF, and a few others. I thought for the price, the RF HPC2206's I had from more than a few years ago were great sounding. Don't know about newer RF products though.
I will be going to Boston Acoustics if I ever upgrade the system in the Cobalt. I think I'll do the SX series.
