Steering Wheel Controls (PAC SWI-PS)

So over the weekend I have been wiring and installing my new headunit (AVIC-Z110BT). I am having a problem programing my steering wheel controls though. I have everything wired in, the dark green coord to the blue coord on adaptor 1, red to power, black grounded. I am wondering if anyone can give me any tips or helpful information why I can't get the PAC to program.

I turned the car to the on position, set the version number to 1; that all works fine. At about step 4 is where it all goes down hill. I hit the button as to get the light to light up, it does. Then I hold the volume up button as that is the first thing to program on the list. The light eventually goes out, but it never comes back on as it states in the directions. It is like it skips to step 20 and just finishes programing, because the light won't light up again until it flashes 3 times and one more time for the version number. So the part where it is suppose to program is not working properly or I am doing something wrong. Any tips would be great! Thanks for any help!

It's a 2009 SS/TC if that matters.

You have no power to the steering wheel controls, I did the same thing. Under the notes section it should state which color you need to add acc power to, I'm not sure which pin right off the top of my head (This is not the PAC, you will be tapping into the cars harness to add power to the actual buttons). The only reason the light goes off is because the unit is timing out, if you go into setup mode and don't push any buttons it will go out after the same amount of time.

I have the exact same problem. What JshLnsctt said makes sense. Need to know which wire in the GM harness to power; I had called PAC last week from my work but they seemed clueless about the issue and asked me to call back when I was with the unit and the car. Problem is they are only there during office hours... If I know what needs to be done I can avoid taking a half day off for this!

Connect PIN 14 (White/Black) to an acc power and your good to go, that is the steering wheel control wire that currently isn't powered. Should be the same for both of you as that is the harness you should have

does that steering wheel control module allow you to still answer calls through your factory bluetooth?

It depends what you have for a harness, just get a headunit with bluetooth like I did

Okay, I'm confused. So am I running the red wire from the PAC to the Black/White wire on the harness? Or do I need to tap both wires together?

No, you need power to both of them. Whatever you used for acc power on the red wire of the Pac ALSO must be hooked to the Black/White wire of the harness to power the steering wheel controls.

OK I just tried this, but it didn't work for me. I do notice some different behavior of the PAC-SWI PS; when I press the program button with the ignition off, the red light comes on which it previously didn't. But when I start programming it still "dies" after the volume up button, then times out. Ugh...

You don't program it with the ignition off? Otherwise you have no power to the controls, you have to put the ignition in acc

Phew. Mine finally works too. Turns out, the wire going to the OEM harness wasn't making proper contact. Once I fixed that, it programmed as advertised and works like a charm. Now I could finally put all the trim back on. looking and sounding sweeet! Check out new pictures on my Cardomain site below.
Thanks again for the help JshLnsctt!

JshLnsctt,

Thanks for the post man. I was tearing my hair out for a minute. So your post, checked voltage at the jumper wire from wht/blk to acc and sure enough, no voltage.

Simple case of not checking my work

Thanks!

I have a similar problem. I got a AVH-P4300DVD and a PAC SWI-PS. Volume down button seems to be working only part-time! When I'm driving, it does not function about 3 times on 4, but when I'm parked without engine running, it works very well... Someone has an idea on what is going on?

you can try reprogramming it? also make sure your pressing it by itself. you can press and hold type deal but on all swi interfaces you shouldnt be pressing more then one button at a time

well get it warrantied and see what happens but theres a good chance it will do it again. one of the main reasons i hated installing swi interfaces after i sorta figured them out is they arent perfect and people expect them to be. more often then not id get a call about problems that need to be fixed so i schedule the appointment like a week later knowing there's a good chance it will fix itself and if it doesn't then there's nothing i could do.

PAC SWI-PS

I have it all wired on my desk and understand how to hook up the wiring, however, will I still need to plug the 3.5mm jack into the back of the HU?
