Hey, Peripheral Electronics makes an adapter that its website says is compatible with your deck.

If its a HiR remote, your out of luck (but check to see if it has a back side remote input. I was going to buy a second Sony MEX-5D1 for the g/fs other car (a 05 Cobalt LS) but had to go with something else (a Clarion) because the remote is a HiR remote (high level Infared) and not supported by the Adapters. I'm buying a AVIC-Z1/2 because it has a dedicated port for the steering wheel adapter.

yeah i have a remote input on the back and i found a soundgate remote6 adapter and it says it plugs right into the back remote plug but it says it supports 2006 and up, not 2005...now is there honestly any difference between the 2005 and 2006 steering wheel setup?

If your radio has an infrared remote, PAC audio makes a 'universal' interface that works with any deck that uses an infrared remote.....

Yeah but my remote itself is a HiR (High-Level Infrared) remote and PAC says it doesnt support HiR....but my deck has a stalk port i think its called in the back for a external wired remote that i am hoping i can connect to the steering wheel with some sort of adapter...

if you buy the PAC unit with a plug in adapter for your wired remote port, you might be ok...and it's possible that it will work on the 05, maybe they just didn't test it. THe general IR ones wont work though. You need the one for Sony radios.
