Stock Deck Issues

Well, I've been having some horrible problems with my stock deck lately. It takes FOREVER to initialize CD's (from 15-60 seconds) and even if the CD is brand spankin new it skips like nuts. I seriously think the excessive amount of bass in my car must have rattled something loose in the CD player, because it can read/play worth **** anymore. I Don't want to get an aftermarket deck either because, 1. I have Steering Wheel Controls 2. I use my XM Sat Radio 3. Single DIN Dash kits look like crap on our cars.

I have a feeling if I bring it to the dealer they will blame it my CDs and not the CD player.

Well the first problem is, its the stock deck.

Of all people to have a stock deck. Why dont you just get a double din deck with a XM tuner and the Pac controls?

BTW how you getting signals to the monster subs? Speaker Level Inputs? You would get such better sound with nice pre outs are configured right

I used a line level converter, and if I had money to get a Double Din /w XM and steering wheel inputs i'd do it in an instant

only problem is I only make around 100-130 bucks a week

HELLZ YEAH to the 100-130 a week (thats me as well). I had a 12' sub hooked up with the stock radio. I would miss the steering wheel controls like u would bc i just oculdnt deal without them. They do make kits though, but I don't think i've seen a kit to keep ALL of the controls...A niCe in dash tv/nav/dvd/cd/mp3 player would be niCe though

Payments = $253/mo

I don't currently pay my insurance.

so i make roughly 400-500 a month, half of which goes to car payments, and the rest is for mods

I had problems with my stock deck a few weeks ago. CD's sometimes wouldn't read, or would skip... and after 45 min of continuous driving, the CD player would get so hot that it just wouldn't read the discs anymore...

Took it to the dealer, they ordered a new player and they got the company that does there audio warranty work to meet me at my job site to replace it on site.

That's cool though. You don't have to hold yourself up to other peoples standards of what "a life" is. How old are you? I'm guessing still in high school/just out of high school?

I pay for my car payments (180) and I make 190 a week. My parents pay for my gas (only about $40 a month) because I pay for other **** like my cell and some of the insurance (only the amount it added adding my car), the rest I blow on my girlfriend and food. And when theres some left over, I spend it on mods. And yeah im still in HS, but I've got a good job as a computer tech for my school district

Xavipheus sounds a lot like me when I was in HS - I had a job working for my district's technology department as well. Started out summers and after school, then summers and after college, then to another district, then to a third district, and now I'm at a BOCES doing the same stuff. Going to different districts was good because I made a lot of contacts, which is helpful since I'm finishing my teaching degree and will be graduating in May. I'm 23 now BTW.

What are your guys' plans for the future? College?

Dealer should replace the stock deck. I had a similar problem in my G6 and they replaced it twice before the problem was solved.

Ugh, HackAbuse & Xavipheus, I beg you guys to reconsider.....

IT is one of the most unrewarding jobs you'll ever find. Its fun and challenging at first (which is why I got my Comp Sci degree before switching to teaching) but now that I've been doing it for 6 or 7 years it sucks. Once you get past the original challenges and cool stuff, it turns into mundane everyday support. There's only so much to be done with router and switch config and such. And, every person that submits a trouble ticket thinks they should be at the top of your priorities for some reason, especially when they come down to the office and see you doing work on a server or something, they think you're doing nothing and not helping them.

And worse yet, there's no money in it, at least not around here. The market is flooded and the pay sucks.

Oh yeah, Xav, your plan is good, that's exactly what I did. Its nice working and going to school because you actually have money, unlike the rest of the college population. The only problem is that you'll quickly realize how immature everyone else is at college since they don't actually have a real job with responsibilities. This past semester I worked full time and took 13 credits, and included in those were two of the hardest undergrad classes, abstract algebra and methods for math teaching. The whole time I had to listen to classmates bitch about it being so hard and so much work, when all they did was go to school. I ended up with a 4.0, some of them failed. Sucks to be them.
