Stock Pioneer Sub replacement

I'm not gonna do this anytime soon but if or when my stock sub blows i was thinking how much i like the stock setup. What kind of Pioneer sub would be a direct replacement to fit in the stock location that would be an upgrade? Can it be done on the stock amp or would I need to piggyback an aftermarket amp?

uhhhhh your not going to blow that sub with the factory amp even if its loud all the time. it doesnt have much power going to it at all as it stands.

I found that most of the pioneer subs that are sold in the stores were a little to deep to work in the stock box. I went with an infinity powered by a kenwood amp because the stock amp just isn't strong enough.

I found this thing, dont have any idea how it would work though. I know you would need a beefier amp for it

I also wonder how big the stock box is, if it could even accommodate anything else than what comes from the factory (or if it would even be worth it to reuse that box)

Are you using the stock enclosure?

ya, it'll be tough to blow the sub with the stock amp in there. if anything, you might have the spyder seperate on you from over excursion. An upgrade would be building your own enclosure in the corner. the enclosure for that pioneer sub is already to small, and any greater of a sub will under perfom in that small lil plastic box.

Someone should make a bigger box to mount in the stock location, and maybe make it look somewhat like the stock enclosure if possible.

I agree... but for both sides. I think it would be a unique look to have a sub on either side of the trunk. I tried to find such a thing but just couldn't

I think as someone pointed out in another post, it wouldn't work well if you had another sub on the other side of the trunk. With both subs facing each other the sound waves would bounce off of each other and it wouldn't sound good at all.

Like it's been mentioned already, the stalk amp does not have enough power to blow the sub. Plus, the sub is not even powered directly from the amp, it's bridged off of the rear 6/9's.

If you want more thump from your sub than you should add a second amp that will power only your sub. You may not even need to change your stalk sub then. Also the advantage of adding a second amp to power only your sub is if you have an after market deck with a sub controller, you can connect your sub to this.

Acording to pioneer, the stock box is 18 liters.I tried converting it to cubic feet and it came out to be 0.64.Anyone wanna verify if thats right?Im looking for a replacement sub that will work with the stock enclosure also.I have a box with 2 12's in it,but i dont wanna put it in casue it takes up the whole trunk.

If someone uses this sub, I seriously want to know how it turns out. I would definitely do this if it sounded good

....Hell I may have to guinea pig this if money falls right over the next couple of months

I heard that pioneer subs arent that great. The guy at the stereo shop by me recommende the jl 10w1v2.The enclosure specs are dead on with our boxes, and there pretty shallow too.In my oppinion, you cant go wrong with jl.Plenty of my friends have them in there cars and they slam.

Yeah, they do have a lower power rating, but i think they will still sound decent. But i dont think there too tall.I have the stock sub sitting next to me and the depth is 4 1/8".The jl sub is 4.34".With alittle modification it should fit with no problem.I dont know if the pioneer sub mentioned above will be a direct fit either. The stock sub is 10.5" in diameter. The pioneer sub above is 11.1" in diameter. So no matter which sub you choose,i think ur gonna have to trim the box to make it fit.I bought the empty box to the stereo shop, but he didnt have any jl's in stock so i can test fit it.Im gonna try and go to a different shop tommorow and see if they have any of the subs mentioned above and see if they fit.

Can someone post some more information if you have done this replacement?

What sub? model? Pics?

Where did you get your input for the replacement amp? did you just take the speaker lines for the rear sub and amplify it?

I would like to put a 400w mono amp with an infinity 10" sub

Pioneer has a new sub that is very thin and will fit in the stock box, and will take minium power to run it and will sound great.

You're installing the new thin pioneer in the stock enclosure? I'm very interested to find out how that sounds.
