I owned the base cobalt before and now that I have upgraded I can tell you it makes a big difference....I don't need to rattle people's windows as I drive by so it does the job well for me....so far no complaints

I thought that it sounded good when I first got it. I ended up with some Gift Certif to Best Buy for Christmas, and with nothing else needed (I already have all the other toys), spreakers for the car where up to bat. I didn't want that ear sattering sound and stupid bass. I listen to talk radio, comedy and modern rock. Just something nice. I left the stock amp and the stock sub. I don't need more bass and didn't want to throw another 600$ into the sound system by addin an amp.

I just replaced the 6.5 in the door and the 6x9 in the rear. Boy oh boy what a difference. The stock speakers sound horrible in comparision. I went with Alpine Type S (I think the Type R sound crappy and are waaay overpriced). Best thing you do to the sound system!!!!

Well the stock sub is a DVC ( dual voice coil ) 2 ohm rated. That one 10 " sub pounds. I was amazed at how well they engineered the sound system.

to be honest when i first got my cobalt i was surprised with the sound system of the base model. I had a cavalier and well we all know about there sounds but the cobalt actually has quality sound in the base factory, i will upgrade eventually but it was not first on my list like i was anticipating...

I'm going to buy a Cobalt LT in about a month and I'm little unsure about the sound system options (in Canada):
- the MP3 sound system with 7 speaker & sub is $475;
- the 7 speakers + sub is only $185.
So, just the MP3 playing capability of the deck costs almost $300? Is there anything else to justify the extra $300?

marquis, you have that backwards.. the mp3/cd player is about 150, and the 7 speaker setup is the 475

I've got the info from here:

http://gmca-config.autodatadirect.co...urVehicle.html

Performance Enhanced Audio (Includes 7 speakers, 228 watt Pioneer premium amplified sound system with 10" subwoofer): $185

Radio: AM/FM Stereo w/CD Player/MP3 Player (Includes 7 speakers, 228 watt Pioneer premium amplified sound system with 10" subwoofer): $475

Is this an error?

the sound is very good overall for a stock system the system itself could have been better if it had some mid control but it's ok. At louder levels the sub can at times drop off in the loudness department but you can still tell that it's there. The auto volume options work really well when cruisin and listening to music with either the windows rolled up or down which is a plus since you dont have to mess with the radio as much if at all when driving. The sound is very solid even at high levels with little or no distortion depending of course on your bass and treble levels.

and actually, to kinda say the same thing other's have said, i was very impressed with the stock speakers... I have the mp3 player/cd player, and it's plenty loud for me... if i was 17 and wanted to get pulled over by the cops because my stereos too loud, then it's not the one... but it gets the mirrors shaking pretty good at about 1/2 volume...

I went to a dealership last Saturday and there isn't any error after all: I'll get the Pioneer sound system for only CAD 185!

I'll probably go down again today and close the deal: Cobalt LT sedan + auto + sports package + enhanced audio system. I'll put $2000 + $1000 trade-in (carheaven.ca) and I'm hoping to get a $2000 discount from the MSRP (on saturday I was offered $1500, but the rep was obviously wiling to give me even more). Did anybody in Canada get more than 2000 off the MSRP?

Can you add just an aftermarket amplifier to get more out of the stock sub? I have a 1000 watt audiobahn amp and 2 Cerwin Vega 10's from my trailblazer just sitting in the garage...

I own a base model. And I'm happy with a stock spickers but I have wanted to go for more base. So I have walked to the store with 300$ and end-up paing equal payments till now. I also had to take the whole rear end apart to put it in.
this is what I like about my sound:

Sounds great for a stock system! probally one of the best stockers I've heard. I have competed in many sound competitions with my other cars and have been a car audio enthusiast for many years. I think if you have an ss/sc you can deal without a factory stereo upgrade till after a couple engine mods. Eventually I will once again upgrade my stereo to a Sound Quality set-up, but thats later down the road.

question

i know this is a really really old post but does anyone know if the amp goes to only the sub or to all 6 other speakers? and if so does anyone know the RMS per speaker? gonna get a new headunit and i dont know what rms is too high or too low if the amp does not go to the door and back speakers and only the sub. im lost with that

The MP3 player radio does a lot more than the stock one. It is XM capable and has a dot matrix LCD display instead of the standard LCD display where the segments are all there and thats the only thing it can display. I know the displays are different, and I think those prices are right. The MP3 radio does more than MP3s.

Someone over at G5club told me that he was running a 600W amp through that speaker with no problems. I plan on trying that soon.

It sounds really good, but I hear some rattle in the car. I insulated some stuff before, but i might have to put some kind of mat up because I can hear maybe my rear windshield shaking. I dont know... but it does sound really good and has kick to it for being stock.
