Hey guys.
I'm sure this has been covered a time or two, but oh well. A simple answer is all that's nescessary. No READ THE RULES or DO A SEARCH or keying of my car is nescessary.
I have a 2006 Cobalt SS 2.4 with the Pioneer set-up. It sounds real nice. But I figured I could get even better sound with a new headunit. Is this the case (for those of you who've done this)? Plus, I don't have a tape player, and FM transmitters for an Ipod are useless so I'd want to hook up an adapter into the new headunit as well. So basically, I know you need the DIN adapter and stuff. What else? Is there a place now to get the factory silver color for the adapter or do you still have to pull a DIY? And also, can you use the subwoofer adjustment (on let's say a new Alpineunit) for the factory Pioneer sub or will it just always be on full bore as long as the bass level is up high? So in other words, how user friendly is a new headunit for the existing Pioneer set-up and what all is nescessary for a swap and can you now get the adapter in silver.

No the dash kit doesnt come matching the cars silver trim they are all black. As far as the bass I dont see how an aftermarket head unit could control the bass coming from the sub unless you rewired the sub to be controlled under the new head units sub channel.
possible but too much trouble... you would need to re-pin the harness to run a seperate wire through those channels. then make a wire to run that through... you would probably have to run it with the rca depending on if the sub out has a equivalent high level output. like i said it would take lots of time figuing that out to make it work... plus you would you want your bass up high but the sub low? if anything it should be the opposite

So basically if you put in a headunit, will the sub default to full power? Or could you get some sort of an add-on sub control thing like Rockfords used to have?

i think youll have to rewire your car. the stock amp will not work with the aftermarket headunit. im pretty sure on that one. also, i believe the sub is tapped from the rear speakers so you wouldnt have independent bass control with it, (if its true).
your best bet is to get a new amp for the subs, if your going with alpine, i dont think they have built in amps, well a lot of the older ones didnt. so you might need a 4 channel amp for the rest of your speakers.
