sub box in place of spare tire
sub box in place of spare tire
Im looking for a more hidden location for my subs. has anybody put a sub in the spot where the spare tire is? If so how did u do it? does anyone have any ideas so i dont have to have a big box in my trunk?
thank you
thank you
*blushes*
Why thank you
I have to tell you though, if your looking to hit big SPL numbers a "tub" style box is not the way to go.
What I was looking for was a good sounding (SQ) and good looking setup.
The DD subs helped alot to make up in the SPL department, there are alot of other subs out there that wouldn't have been half as loud or half as clear.
For the price they are you can't go wrong, you can get 2 2512's for the price of 1 12w6 and IMO the DD's are much better subs

ill admit thou spuns setup looks alot cleaner then mine

DD subs hit like a mothaf*cker! my friend at a car shop put two 18's in the back of a geo metro with 3500 watts a piece. and two kinetik batteries. too bad his voltage dropped.

He's right, even if I wanted to do something stupid like put grilles over the speakers, and even if I could somehow how make it so **** didn't fall into the port, the pressure back there would toss things around.
Mine may look purdy but even with emps old amp, I'll bet my first born I don't hit the numbers he hit with the same amp.
Don't get me wrong, I love my setup, to me it sounds awsome, but its not practical. My new car (still keeping the balt, just getting another one) will have a very basic system in it if I put one in at all. 2 8" DD one in each rear corner of the trunk in small fiberglass boxes is what I was thinking, just enough to make it sound good, but still have a functioning trunk.
Ouch
Is that thing not living up to the hype or you just have it dialed back.
If its not putting out the numbers it should, then maybe its a lemon, that article I read they actualy bench tested it and it put out awsome numbers, send it back get a new one.
With the exeption of a few years in the early 2000's fosgate has been know for there durability, infact the way I had it put to me was "those amps will break your car before they break themselves" He was talking about a punch 40/80 BBQ grille style but you get the picture

Over the subs?
You can't really, it changes everything, it would almost make it a bandpass box or some kind of mutant bandpass. The subs have alot of travel to them so anything over top of them would be in the way.
Covering everything with plexiglass would change the peramiters of the box, DD's are really funny about box specs, the sound awsome if you stick to the recomended demensions, stray to far from them and they really don't perform as they should.
Besides the air movement back there picks my decklid up and tosses it around, even through the 5 layers of hush mat and 2 layers of foam, I don't know what would hapen to something that was any closer to the subs but it wouldn't be pretty.
Emp- So its drawing to much power than huh, what does that thing need like a 400amp fuse to it. Time for the first quad alt cobalt
All kidding asid ecould you replace the 2nd alt you have with something designed to run at 18volts, like 250-300 amps and have it run just the batteries that run the T4, there a couple 18 Kinetics if I remember the pics correctly
