Sub recommendation

I currently have an Alpine MRP-M500 monoblock amp and would like to add some more bump to my car. I'm looking at Alpine subs, I could run two type e subs off of it or one type r. Would one 12inch type R put out more sound than two 12 inch type e subs?

I think i'm going to go with a single 12inch type r, would you recommend a sealed or ported box for the trunk of the cobalt? I want to feel the bass hit extremely hard, like getting punched in the back haha.

It all depends on what you want.

Sealed boxes gets you a much more natural sound curve. This is better for listening to natural insrumentation (stringed instruments, acoustic drums, and wind instuments). However if you listen to produced instrumentation (electronic drums, hip-hop/rap beats, electronica/dubstep/etc), then you should definitely go with ported, and tune the port to the mid 30's somewhere (I'd personally go for around 32Hz). Also, a sealed box takes up A LOT less room than a ported/bandpass box ever will. You're talking somewhere around 0.85 to 1.25 cubic feet for a single 12" sealed, versus 1.4-1.75 cubic feet for a single 12" ported/bandpass (approximate numbers here).

Now that I typed that technical jargon, all you need to know if you want to hit real hard like you say, go ported or bandpass. Just make sure you do some research on the sub you're gonna get, and make sure if you end up going ported that you get a proper enclosure that'll hit the peak at the frequency you want.

Also, if it were me, I'd ALWAYS go for the better spec'd sub, rather than 2. Go with the Type-R, it'll treat you very nicely. You could always go with a different brand and get great results too.

Shoot for SQ over DB. You'll be loud enough and much happier with the sound. Type R gets my vote. Ported in the 30's or low 40's IMO

Go for a Rockford fosgate p3 12. Much better quality then the type r and hits harder in most cases.

T2 is Rockfords equalivalnt to the w7 pretty much. Both are amazing subs, but very pricey.

I've been more of a JL guy myself. My 2 W6 are still awesome 3 years later. Nice sealed box. Fits into anything I want which is great going from one car to another.

I'm very into electronic music, house, drum and bass, idm, dubstep etc. I'm picking up a 12inch type r in a ported box tomorrow. I've done some research and that seems to be a great combination with my amp as well as the right setup for the kind of music I like.

mmm. to be honest id probably go with a sealed box if you listen to that. dubstep will probably prefer ported sorta but with everything else sealed is going to sound way better

but are field destruct so if you ever blow it you pop the 6 screws out and pop in a new voice coil, or if you poke a hole in is you can replace that too.... sub is amazing. hit harder than 10's drops lower than 15's we have a M6 we are putting 2 in for the first time ever and it should be retarded.

you only need one of these things.

I burnt up 1 coil on a xxx 15 DVC and for some reason when I only had one working coil, that thing picked up low notes I had never heard b4. Then when we "rebuilt it" if you will, it was louder but didnt sound as good. After that, I switched to the quad coil xxx 15. Didnt do anything "more" for me except allowed me to drop my ohm load to I think 1/2 ohm. It was a while ago cant remember all the detail but yea RE is the ****. Anyone know if the company Brahma is still around?

nope not by a long shot. the old re xxx was designed by them in conjunction with scott at re. terms of the contract were if brahma went out of buiss that re couldnt sell the design anymore hence the change to the new xxx. then scott sold the company about a year later and made FI. david the other partner stayed for a year or 2 then parted ways with them to make PSI and now we have the X series awesomeness
