Subwoofer amp... Protection mode?

Hi guys i just upgraded my amp in my car to a phoenoix gold 1600 watt max amp. I have a pioneer premeir 12 that puts out 3500 watt max. Now my amp keeps on going into protection mode and shuting off. I have never had this happen befor. I had the same sub with a alpine 450 max amp and it never shut off. What makes my amp go into protection mode? my ground is solid and my power is tight. Its not blowing fuses either.

Protect mode usually means a short on the sub side of the amp - ie: the wires to the sub itself.
Could be 1 little tiny strand that's come loose and is shorting.

That's all I got........

k im looking into that right now. How many ohms is my sub? I have a duel voice coil at 4 ohms. Then i bridged the wires in the box. So, they come out of the single outlet in the back of my box. Then i have my pos and neg going to one side of my amp. My amp is not bridged at the amp. Is that 1 ohm?

without looking at the specs of your set up im gonna think that its probably 2 ohms, but im probably wrong haha. ur amp could also possibly going into protection mode because of overheating, but with the cold weather i kind of doubt that. im gonna go with what buzzard said and guess thats its probably a short somewhere

How did you bridge the voice coils?
Both + terminals to one wire from amp, both - to the other (parallel)? That would get you 2 ohms.
One wire from amp to + on first voice coil, wire from - on that coil to + on the second coil, wire from - on second coil to amp (series) That would get you 8 ohms.

Double check your connections at the sub itself, make sure no wires are touching the metal of the basket or the magnet.

And EmperorJJ1 may be right - the sub could be blown / shorted internally. Do you get any sound at all or does it go straight into protect when you power it up?
