hopefully putting a spacer between the 2 parts in the box. im interested to see what this does to the strength of the box. in theory if done well that would vastly improve the box strength so...
one of the things few people consider is the stock box might as well be made of cardboard. so shoving a giant sub in reverse works but its pretty shitty

I just ordered a subwoofer that is 6-5/8" Deep with giant magnets. I hope I can get it to fit. I will get you all updated when I can check all clearances. It was not listed in anything that I have mentioned in the previous posts on this thread. I am sorry on the delay for the pictures but I wanted to show you could fit a giant sub in this box with a small amount of effort (some cutting and MDF reinforcement). The sub I chose is good for 800 watts RMS is built for a box from .3 - .7 cuft. Perfect for us. And has an outstanding price you all will love. Beating out subs of similar spec by 100's of dollars, weighs 21 lbs and the cone is carbon fiber.

Just a little taste of things to come. I have more pics but I need time to get them off my phone. I can tell you however I ended up with a 6-1/2" deep enclosure so far. I created a template, used a jig, and have some neat stuff coming to wrap this all up. You wont be able to tell there is giant sub in this small enclosure.
I cut the back plate out 3-1/6" radius. That gave me just over 6 inches to clear a magnet of monsterous proportions. I then filed down the edges and test fitted it in the car to see how deep I could make it with the box installed. There is an additional 1-1/2" behind the box to bump plate the box for a giant magnet. Wait till you see what I have coming next when the glue dries.

and would need some serious reinforcement.

Cut out a template out of an old folder (paper board).
Cut out the board using a template. Make two of them. One with the proper sized hole to match the enclosures new back plate cutout and one hard one out of 5/8" MDF.
Now sitting in place, as a rough in to check my measurements you can see I have about 6-1/2" mounting depth to just about allow any subwoofer I want to install in this thing. As long as the magnet is around 6 inches in diameter, just about any woofer will fit now.
You can see here that the 2 pieces of 5/8 inch material now make up about 1-1/4" out the rear of the enclosure. Notice the feet that stand off the back. There is room to get the box in the stock location and still will fit with there being just carpet behind the subwoofer. You may need to remove the cotton batting behind the carpet in the trunk to make it fit but that is not hard to do. Dynomat or use a anti vibration material behind it if needed.
So take the two pieces that were cut and glue them together, clamp them and let dry.
In the next segment I am going to have the subwoofer on hand and make sure that everything lines up and allows for plenty of room. I am going to 2 part epoxy the wood to the plastic for a concrete bond. Then seal the wood after everything is all together. I am also going to stiffen the inside of the box and install poly-fill to soak up the resonances that will be horrible in a plastic enclosure. So more to come...

I have not dynamatted the car, it adds a ton of weight, thats going against what i am trying to do here. My car is loud and vibes are by nature of NBS deletes, hard rubber rotated mounts, and 3" exhaust (although not a loud exhaust, its louder than stock).
There is a way you fix vibes in a car you are trying to keep light weight. You use only dynamat on things that vibrate during loud resonant bass. It uses less material and only needs applied to small areas as small as an inch of dynamat can cure vibes. There is no need to do the entire car. That I feel is only necessary if you are going for a very quiet cabin, maybe in a very nice sport sedan looking for sound quality.

I say yes, but you are going to want to have the sub on hand so that you can modify as you see fit. Anything will fit in this box. If you had to you could even space the entire box from the middle, it comes apart with like 20 screws.
