Taping into the fuse box?

I went to a car audio place looking fo fuse taps today and they told me it would be stupid to tap into the fuse box and that its not good for the car or radio or some crap.. he said it would be better off finding the ignition wire under the steering wheel...do you guys really think it matters?

tell them suposed "car audio guys" to pull their heads outta their asses.....makes no difference at all where you get the ignition source from. Take it out of the fuse box with an add-a-circuit and just bump the amperage of the original fuse by 5 amps if you really want to but you can leave it as stock because a deck is lucky to pull 2 amps on the turn on connection.

Putting a higher amperage fuse in isn't a good idea. It will be fine using the same amperage fuse that's already there.

fuse taps are GHETTO!

Strip, twist, solder and tape your connection. AND use an inline fuse of lower rating then the circuit you are tapping into.

^^ Agreed, Although this will work, the wiring in the car is designed to take a specific amount of amperage before it gets too hot and will melt. IE, a 5 amp fuse wiring may not have the same gauge as a 20 amp line.
Avoid fuse taps, they have a tendency to corrode and fall off at the worst possible time.
