Trunk light voltage question

This weekend Im planning on installing some blue CCFL tubes in my trunk. I was thinking of tapping in to the wire powering the little white trunk light, so they only come on when the trunk is opened. So my question is that wire a reliable 12v source?

i have no idea on the wires but most of those led's and what not are usually protected from reversing the polarity so if you wire it up and it wont turn on, just switch them around and it should light up

Meanwhile back at the ranch....

Getting back on topic I have a string of 5 LED's running off the trunk light wires.
I thought I was going to need a relay but I hooked them up and they worked just fine from just cutting the line a few inches away from the light fixture a connecting the LED wires directly in.
