Ultimate trunk build-up

Me and my buddy started revamping my stereo system today and I think it is going to turn out to be almost show quality from the way it's going so far. We completely tore everything out of the trunk and sprayed rubberized undercoating with sound deadener for the first layer in the trunk. We took out the carpet on both sides of the trunk and we are currently glassing it. Bondo-Hair is amazing and is so much easier to work with than regular mat and resin. We plan on getting it gelcoated when the project is finished a bright yellow to match the car . Each side is going to have a wood box glassed in it to hold 1 12" Kicker L7 on both sides. The spare tire is gone for good and that area will become the new home for a wood amp rack covered in carpet that is cut to match the space in the spare tire well. After that is complete I am taking cardboard to cut a template of the metal floor in the trunk around the spare tire well to install a piece of lexan. Under the Lexan will be my amps on the rack lit up by an undecided neon color. The area in the spare tire area that holds the battery have an access door installed and will be covered with either diamond plate or a fake carbon fiber. I'll be sure to keep you guys posted with pics and photoshop pictures explaining what the hell I'm doing. As far as the inside of the trunk lid I may install a small LCD screen or get a template with the Cobalt letters and paint raised letters on there. Hopefully everything will turn out good, but it is going to be a lengthy project. Btw, fiberglass is not cheap as I found out today .

Ok, I have two pics of the trunk and a general idea of what we are doing. Apparently, there is about 5000 features in photoshop that I don't know how to use so I used paint instead .

This is where one of the subs will be on the driver's side. The entire trunk is getting a second coat of sound deadener tomorrow to cover up some missed spots. Doh!

I hope you are gonna have some fans and venting in there to move/cool the air for the amps.

Yes, this was a concern but the 4 channel amp is a Kicker KX350.4 (90X4@ 2 ohms) so it shouldn't get warm at all, but the sub amp is a Kicker KX1200.1 (1200X1 @ 1ohm) and it has a built in fan so we might have to install vents or something down there.

Take a small section of modders mesh and use that so theres adiquate ventilation. Instead of just drilling holes into the lexan. That way you can paint it as well on it.

Far as lighting ever consider UV?

Very very nice man. I am still in the process of getting my stuff together. My 4 channel amp took a dump already and fried the rear speakers as well so I have to replace both and start working on it again.

Looks nice aside from the B&M sticker. And the 2f2f floor mats.

Couple things... it looks good, except that yellow and silver climate controls look very mismatched. The stereo looks cool, but I hate motorized ones, especially in a car where it will fit a flush double-din.

i believe he stated in another thread that he has onstar so he needed that special harness with the dic built in (under the h/u) so that he could keep his onstar.

Ahh, well... thats cool. But like I said, I just prefer the flush look.

I don't like the motoorized ones anyway...

He did do an amazing job though.

Metra at the time just released the single din but under the stereo is where the center speakers are installed for surround sound Cut out the unused guage area made grille kinda stealth, would not have been able to have center speaker in Alpines preffered location. i was unable to come up with a solution yet for A/C but it matchs all the electric switchs doors & dash

It has been a long time since I first started this thread and man is this project taking forever. I have finally got some money together again and I want to finish this as soon as possible. Here is a couple of pics to see what an unfinished fiberglass pannel looks like as well as how dirty everything looks in the trunk right now.

You can see the line where the wood will line up to form the box for the 12" L7

The other side with some random tools

The Optima Yellow Top

From the backseat looking in the trunk, there is a mess of wires. Mainly the wires you see there are for the ricer LED underbody lights (impulse buy).

I will post new pics as we get further and keep you guys up to date.

if i didnt want my car so damn light i would be tweeking the sound system. in my eclipse i was starting to work on a custom box up until i sold it. i had kappa perfect components in the back, i had a nice set of components in the back until they blew and i put rockford 6x9s. an alpine deck (forgot the model) alpine 4 channel, 2 infinity 12s that hit hard as crap, kenwood monoblock amp, the car could have easily been heard 50 feet away along with feeling the base. this time around i just want a fast ride. if not i would be paying Focal a call for all new speakers and audison a call for all new amps. JL w3v3 subs and a nice jl 500/1 slash series amp.
